volunteer only if you get paid to.

That’s sad that’s the way you think.  Sure making/having money is great, but helping people/animals who need your help is so gratifying.  Maybe one day you just might find you need help, can’t afford it, but could use a volunteer but there are none.  Just saying….
Just about everyone knows Jesus said there is more happiness in giving then receiving, but Satan has been allowed to blind many.

When Jesus taught his followers to teach Gods kingdom and more about his father he told them,"You received the knowledge free, give it back to others free".

Nancy if someone didnt know you were good with animals and you were about to take care of theirs, right before they left their animal with you you wouldnt want an ultimatum from them.

OH i get it you were pissed at how the staff treated your parents. But in a kind way you can set the scene of what to expect from them and if you get it,yes reward them.If you dont get it then you can also in a kind way ask why.

Some think they might get better results with the harder approach.

An answer when mild turns away rage.

I dont think anyone wants to hear they might get their head spinned.

Sorry I have to disagree.  I don’t know if you have ever been in nursing homes, I mean really been not just one visit.  I’m not saying all staff are terrible, there are lots of dedicated, caring workers.  The problem is they are way underpaid and over worked.  There might be only 2 CNA’s for 20 residents. They have to get them up, washed, dressed, feed 3 meals, change them many times and clean them up, get them undressed and put to bed.  By doing what we did I felt, and still feel by catering to them by parties and food we helped my mom.  Also my mother was private pay (which means Medicare did not pay for her we did) and I made it crystal clear if we felt she was not treated good, she would be moved immediately.

I consider volunteering to be quite rewarding, I plan to start soon.

I have volunteered in so many things, I can't even begin to list them all. Usually they are interesting and you can usually learn a lot and certainly meet new people.

I haven't done so in a long time, because I was pretty faithful, both in donating blood myself and checking other people in to donate during blood drives, but finally became so dismayed by the sloppy way the workers were running things, I gave up. However, I'm thinking of trying some new stuff.

If you've volunteered and enjoyed it, can you share some of your ventures with those of us willing to jump in the pool again, please? Much appreciated! :angel11:

Nancy,a little leaven ferments the whole batch. You see it in all aspects of life.A few bad apples spoil it for the rest.We see that especially with the police today.

Im a security guard in a private gated community and from time to time people wanna come in cos they are lost or just wanna be nosy.I dont come across as a drill sgt.I remind them nicely its private.

My whole point with you was explaining nicely the bad experience you had with other workers instead of an ultimatum.

Righteous anger is OK if needed.

Remember Jesus had it when they turned his fathers temple into a flea market. Many instances in bible where God used righteous anger.

Old topic, but worth bringing back to the forefront.

I am always looking for volunteers to help with a ministry connected to Catholic Charities I am involved in which provides furniture to families and individuals in need. It mostly requires able-bodied men (or women) who are retired or not working the typical 9-5 job as most of the need is during weekdays during 9-5 hours to pick up and deliver heavy furniture. We also have a very extensive background check process and require all volunteers to take part in an online program related to recognizing, reporting, and prohibiting any inappropriate child or mentally impaired adult safety issues. (I'm not expecting to get any help posting in here as it would also require you to be living in or near Sandusky, Ohio - but I am just saying as a 'fer-instance').

There are so many charities and organizations out there in EVERY community who really need the assistance of cheerful willing volunteers. If you have the time and energy to give freely of yourself, it can be a very rewarding experience!

In the past I have volunteered at the Special Olympics.  It was so much fun to see the smile on their faces when they played the different sports.
