I always give these simple facts that a great gauge of his performance.

1) He renewed the patriot act,
2) He doubled the troops in Afghanistan
3) He still hasnt closed Gitmo as he promised on 'day one' and even if he did, he doesnt tackle 'torture' as a topic, only the facility that is 'famous'.
4) He has given BILLIONS (trillions after interest etc) of taxpayers money (future generations) to rich bankers and companies who are now closing facilities in the US to open up shops in foreign lands stimulating THEIR economy not ours.
5) The military commissions act still is in effect
6) Telecom spying is still tolerable.

Basically he took an oath to uphold the Constitution and Bill of Rights and he is failing at that. He vetoed Bush's bill on stem cell research overnight. He could do the same with the Patriot Act and Military Commissions act. He supports the majority of everything that Bush did and it is very difficult to tell them apart if only going by actions. Most people who support Obama have nothing but "faith" and "hope" and nothing really to say about his actions. Obama has been there nearly a year and nothing but more war, more troops dying, more jobs lost, more corporate handouts, renewals of the laws that Bush implemented that are against the Constitution, torture, spying etc. Its all the same *bleep* different *bleep* :)

I hope he can get his act together and lead this country in the right direction. I'm afraid that when his term of office is over in 4 years our country will be farther in debt and we as a people will have less freedoms than we have now.

The guy is absolutely worthless!!!!! He hs been in office for 300 days and has done nothing. He can't even get support from his own party. Everything that he said he would do to get elcted was a lie. The country is in te worst shape in 70 years and getting worse every day

I have read the many posts and I do not like getting into politics as there is always conflict. Although everyone has a right to his or her opinion I would have to say I do not think Obama is doing a good job at this time. The economy is horrible and Obama is spending a majority of his time on issues other than those that need immediate attention NOW! Maybe Obama should be working on these issues instead of leaving the decisions of "Our Country" to Nancy Pelosi! :BangHead:

The economy has fluctuations.  There are upturns and downturns.  It's part of a market economy.  The recession is over, unemployment isn't going to change for another year.  Deal with it.  It is no different from any other recession in recent US history.  If you really think any President has control over the state of the economy you should open a few more political science books.

What are these other "unimportant issues" he's spending his time on?  Health care reform?  You really think that's not an important issue in this country, even if you disagree with his proposals (never mind that it goes hand in hand with the economy)?  Afghanistan?  It's not important to make an informed decision on what we're going to do with thousands of US military members?  What issues are you referring to?

Pelosi is the Speaker of the House.  She is Constitutionally one of the most powerful individuals in Congress and in the federal government as a whole.  A President doesn't walk into Congress and tell the Speaker "I'm not going to allow you to legislate as much any more and I'll be doing the legislating from here."  Don't be silly.  The legislation of our country has always theoretically been largely in the hands of Congress and Congress has always largely been under the influence of the Speaker (and majority party as a whole).

I am not sure, but I think he is doing what he can to make the economy better, since some people said that he came to save the day.

When I was in grade school the kids running for office promised soda in the drinking fountains, free lunches, candy, and all day recess. A politician says what it takes to get elected, then points his finger at others as to why he can't fulfill his promises'. Then its time to run again. Its time for more ice cream, candy, etc.   What's new???

I find it comical how people ignore facts....

Lets try this again:

Quote

Was the Patriot Act an executive order?

The fact of it is that most of this country is ignorant (at least that is what I was taught as a youngster) and have since modified that. "Most of this country is stupid". Ignorance means of no knowledge, but when you have the knowledge of previous experience and continue to make the same mistakes that is stupidity. It ultimately comes down to the guy's ethnicity........

Was the Patriot Act an executive order?

The bottom line is the Patriot Act was voted on without anyone in congress reading it. It was also temporary. It has since been renewed by Bush who threatened congress that if they did not renew it, he would force it renewed anyways. Now Obama has renewed it. The bill could easily be removed as nearly every single person in congress has been bothered constantly about it by their constituents. Obama could easily abolish the Patriot Act or at the VERY least bring it up as a possibility or bill/vote. Yet instead he renewed it, that is the difference. Executive order or not, that's different... But if you want to talk about Executive orders, look at the HUGE number of them that Bush put forward that allow for example the complete take over of our food supply, the forced labor of civilian in camps etc. These executive orders are still in place, Obama doesn't talk about those or even attempt to reverse their damage. But why would he work to make the government less powerful? That's not his objective, like Bush his objective is to make the Federal Government more powerful, more necessary, more intrusive etc.

It ultimately comes down to the guy's ethnicity........

Obama has higher ratings than Bush last I saw... so the Ethnicity has nothing to do with it... he started out being one of the most popular presidents in recent years. Bush barely even won the race, Obama had no problem with TV air time, hip appearances, and has been pretty much given a free ride. Nobody talks about the patriot act, nobody even talks about him doubling the troops. Bush was a *bleep* and Obama is doing the same things, supporting the exact same agenda, he is only a nicer guy in appearance so most people don't care. Of course race pays a big part in simple minded individuals, but remember Kanye West? "George Bush doesn't like black people". It was about race then too, but its a SMALL factor in comparison to the lies, actions, economy, wars etc. Those have a much bigger impact on individuals lives and therefore a bigger impact on their impression of the person... Racists will be racists, on both sides... In fact Obama tried to say it was about Race when that cop arrested the professor! Then he had them over for beers.. Race has been brought up a lot in this administration, but I think its just the hype and blown out of proportion. This is why they claim the 'tea parties' are about race, when these existed before Obama was president, and the same people attend... Sure it may draw a racist, anything Anti-Obama policy will... but its rare, and overplayed on television. Its a SMALL factor, VERY SMALL. If he was White and named Bush the same would happen... in fact it DID happen :
