Is anyone into the bitcoin craze? My oldest son is making money from it, but I wonder how long it can last.

Does anyone understand it to put it in simple terms for a person like me who doesn't really get it? 

Be very careful about investing with Bitcoin. There are so many scams out there.  I was just listening to a podcast on AARP and this lady lost $110,00 trying to make money because initially they were making it seem awesome because she invested $400 and got back an additional $600.  So she invested a much larger amount and that's where they got her.

They didn't get her, she got herself. What part of earn it free and let it grow is so hard to understand?

The next most important principal is it is impossible to lose money unless you sell. It's not the market price that determines your profit, it's the difference between what you paid for it and you are able to sell it for by being patient. The real principal is if you can keep increasing your balance even though the value is dropping, the potential is still there to make a nice profit when your increased quantity of coins goes up in value, like it has so many times already.

Actually I have yet to experience the shock you read about from people who have no clue what they are talking about. I owned Bitcoin when it was valued at $60.000 and now it's around $20,000 and of course the same is true about Satoshi (which are like pennies relate to Hundred Dollar bills in principal), so the shock was avoided when I considered that my few thousand Satoshi when the value was high are still worth just as much because I have a couple million of them. When Bitcoin goes up, they will too and because of the economy of scale it can be even better for those that held on.

Lucky You! I didn't get in until it was already up to about $3,000 per BTC. Still wishing I had been a bit more of a tech nerd back in 2009.

I still don't understand how the BlockChain works, but I have accumulated over 2 Million Satoshi I am building on without risking a penny of my own money. I used a gambling site for most of this, but I learned early on why gambling sites have so much money and it's not because they give away free money. However they do offer nice compound interest on any deposits we make, so I don't mind waiting while I watch it grow.

From my observation thaat is a risky strategy.
What I prefer is to buy low and invest, preferably with compound interest.

Well, I've probably only cashed out less than 5% of what I've purchased and view everything I've bought and the cost of BTC as the actual investment. My philosophy on it is that I am in it for the long haul - waiting to see if the upward trend continues over a 15 or 20 year plan.

Hmmmm . . . I guess I am in trouble then since in 20 years I would be 104 years old and the odds are against me ever getting that far. Maybe one of my heirs will get it?

Yea, I guess I am just going to wait and see if the price explodes that high, like some predict, or if the bottom drops out, like others predict. I figure that I have between 15 and 20 years left before I retire from working (51 now). If things trend upward over the next 7-10 years then I might have something nice crypto speaking by the time I retire. If things go badly - at least I'm not sinking every spare penny into it and only risking what I can afford to risk at the moment. And I can still jump ship at that point before it sinks completely.
