Life on hold due to Covid

Do you feel like your life is on hold since the pandemic?  I do.  I know we all had plans and goals but now it's even more difficult.  Last summer I was going to apply at another company.  The industry I work in was hit extremely hard by the pandemic and no one is hiring just layoffs.  If I didn't get that job my plan was to go back to school in another year or so for another career.  I feel like I have to wait until things get back to semi normal (probably another year) to do anything.

I was texting about this with a friend, just today.  I'm having a hard time foreseeing that things will ever be able to go back to the ways they once were.  I see videos with crowds of people, maskless, shoulder to shoulder, enjoying themselves and wonder if it will ever be like that again.  In the last couple of weeks I've had three separate dreams where I'm at some event and no one is wearing a mask, not even I, and I'm horrified at realizing that no one is practicing safety.

I think "normal" will forever be different, but with the vaccine, there's progress and hope, so I'm optimistic that things will be looking better very soon!

My life is not on hold. My area was never locked down. I was never locked in my home. For the most part people in my area did not stop going. A few places closed but those people drew astronomical amounts of unemployment so they had plenty of money to blow so they were running the roads every day.

Where I live everybody is hiring. They just can't get anybody to work. They would rather sit on their butt and collect a check that work for it.

I am curious as to why you think things will be back to "normal" in another year? When this started it was 2 weeks.  Just 2 weeks.  It has been over a year and the control is just getting worse. The "normal" you knew 18 months ago is gone. You will never see that again.  It must be nice to be able to hide in your home for 2 years and not have to work.

People need to educate themselves. The mask will not keep you from getting a virus. The virus is 1000 times smaller than the pores in the mask. It can and will go right through. Every single person I know who has contracted this "virus" wore a mask. The mask did not make any difference.

The mask also gives a false sense of security. A few days ago I was at the grocery store. I saw a woman working in the bakery/deli at the grocery store. She is fixing hot chicken to put on their buffet bar.  She proceeds to sneeze right over and on the chicken. She did not cover her mouth or even turn her head. But hey she had y'alls precious mask on.  So are you okay with eating food that has been sneezed on IF the person had a mask over their mouth? Or would you want her to have turned her head because that mask is not going to stop her spit from going all over the chicken?

No there isn't. Again, people need to educate themselves. Do some research. The CDC has said that even with a vax you still have to wear a mask, you still need to SD, and all the other ridiculousness going on. Nothing will change.  They have even said that a vax will not keep you from getting the virus anyway.  Oh and have you seen where several people have died right after taking the vax? There was a man just a couple days ago that took the vax and he died 30 minutes later - right there in the floor where they gave him the vax.  Several people have died from it and YES it was 100% from the vax.  SO I am surprised that people are chomping at the bit to take a vax against a virus that has a 99% survival rate - meaning less than 1% will die when the same amount of people will die FROM the vax. Think about it.

2020 was suppose to be an awesome year for me and it got put on hold but I decided to do certain things this year anyway and just move as carefully as possible.

Unfortunately, I think this will be our way of life for some time.  I also think that as the numbers fail to decline they will eventually make it a crime to not practice preventative measures.

Better to be alive on hold than dead? I know of several people who would trade their coffin for the mere thought of being locked up at home and wearing a mask. I have been so happy working at home that I kind of dread having to go back into the office next year. Our latest corporate town hall has indicated that we are, most likely, not going into the office till next year, if at all. Production numbers and quality have jumped dramatically and the cost of two corporate buildings does not seem to make much sense. I am perfectly happy working from home, taking a few breaks here and there to entertain my dogs, not having to get dressed up, not showering, not commuting three days a week (I worked from home two days a week before CoVid).

Countrygirl, THANK YOU for saying exactly what most of us are thinking! This is a political thing that had been blown WAY out of proportion. Yes, there is a virus. No we dont need to keep freaking out. Just stop already.

Yes I have had to delay a lot of plans I had particularly advancing in my career. My chosen work puts me at risk of getting the virus. I am making the sacrifice to wait to return to it because I'm trying to reduce the chance that I bring the virus home. I have an older parent to think about. I hope we are on the way to getting a better handle on Covid. Everyone would like to move forward with their plans.
