How many dogs do you think one person should have?
« on: October 26, 2009, 01:15:05 pm »
I have 7 dogs and love them dearly and take care of them like they are my children but when is it time to say hey that person cant have any more animals because they are suffering. In my opinion that is abuse dont you think?

i agree

at my dads theres 4 dogs

and here 1 dog and 4 cats

ur not rly suffering them

as long as u give them all attention plus have a place for them

to be running around and have time to play.

now if u had 20 then i would say thats a little bit to much

but also for those of u who may b reading this post

if u r planning to adopt

u should go to a non-killing shelter

or even if u have to give up ur dog

never take it to the pound but to a non-kill shelter

in ur local area which could b found on petfinder

I have two dogs,a cat and a bird. I adopted my golden Lab from the animal shelter. I agree that you should only have as many dogs as you can afford to take care of and the play time like running areas and walking them regularly

As many as they have room for and can take care of them adequately.

I would say a couple, but there are alot of things this would depend on, for example, how much land does a person have? Do you live in the city or in the country. How many kids do you have, and what breed of dog, there are alot of factors to consider when answering this question.

Only as many as you can reasonably afford.  If you want 10 dogs, and can afford to feed them the proper amounts, keep them groomed properly, take them to the vet yearly for their shots, buy their heartworm preventative, clean the messes they make outdoors daily, keep the indoors clean, AND comfortably pay YOUR everyday living expenses (ie. you yourself live comfortably and debt free), then who is anyone to say that a person has too many?

As with anything in life, the amount of dogs you have should only equal your ability to comfortably afford and maintain them consistently.

I love dogs even though i dont have any at all because my mom is allergic so :( but i say it shouldnt matter how many dogs to have, as long as you can take care of all them!

I live in a state notorious for running "puppy mills"! I personally believe that if  persons can take care of  their animals responsibly then THEY should be allowed to have as many as they can afford to care for! PETS are like little children and most of the time ONE doesn't see a cap or ratio as to how many a person can have! (but they have to be able to take care of them or they get in a heap of trouble)

As many as they want, as long as they can take care of them all, and give them the attention they need.

It depends, are they big dogs or little dogs, indoor or outdoor and fixed or not.  Personally I would say when after 3 but I hate little dogs (I call them puntable), so 3 big dogs when cost a lot and take up a lot of space.  I only have 1 dog and 2 cats right now, but my husband is always trying to get another dog.  If we had a bigger yard I might say yes, but its barely big enough for our 45 lb dog.  However, if some dogs are outdoors then I might go more than 3.  My best friend has a 22 acre yard which is perfect for more animals (plus her dad is a vet); I would feel comfortable with 7 on a property like that.
