Should DC become the 51st state? What do you think?

No, it's unconstitutional which states:  "...To exercise exclusive Legislation in all Cases whatsoever, over such District (not exceeding ten Miles square) as may, by Cession of particular States, and the Acceptance of Congress, become the Seat of the Government of the United States, and to exercise like Authority over all Places purchased by the Consent of the Legislature of the State in which the Same ......"

In other words, the federal government should never be subservient to a state. Granting statehood to DC would place the safety and security of the President and Congress in the hands of whoever is in control of DC if turned into a state..  The founding fathers were specifically concerned about exactly that when they decided that the federal capital would not be located in any state but remain neutral in matters of the states.

LOL The founding fathers said a lot of stuff that has been thrown out the window.

For the most part - me either. I have not heard anything about it. But I would need more info on why and what difference it would make. Would this not make a state in the middle of another state, kind of like an island?

i understand why it isn't a state. At the same time i have never heard of any attempts being made for DC a state. it shouldn't be a state we really couldn't have a separate functioning federal government. Even tough i not crazy about federal government we still need it. :rainbow: :peace:

I do not think that the capital should become a state. This is only an unfair political move by the dems...

Certain people have been trying to make D.C. a state at least since 1963. The latest has been 2020 when the mayor or D.C. stated if Biden wins, they (meaning D.C.) will become the 51st state. There are still a lot of those in Congress that follow the Constitution and don't think D.C. should ever be a state because the federal government does need neutrality in governing.  It would be hard to decide how to be this state when D.C. consists of areas from both Virginia and Maryland states. I don't think those two states would want to lose any more land to make another state.

I don't care.  If the become one great if they don't great.  Doesn't effect my life for the better or worse.

That was what I thought too.  I don't think it can be a state.

I thought I read that it is the 51st state now.  Course I could have read wrong.  My dyslexia kicks in.
