Where do you see yourself in five years?
« on: September 30, 2020, 10:02:09 pm »
Don't you just hate that interview question?  This isn't a job interview so you can answer how you want instead of what you thing the interview wants to hear.

Me

I hope to be out of debt and financially independent
I want to move to a place that's warm all year

Hi!

No I don't hate that question. Rather it is a good way to know where your mind is at I think. I think I would answer the very same way. I see myself growing my business and living the life I truly madly deeply want to live. I would like to meet the love of my life.

That question still catches people off guard in interviews that I have attended. I would think that people would be prepared for mundane questions like the five year future and the 'ten purposes this pen can provide'. Allowing open ended questions like these are good for determining if the person can think outside of the box and if they are serious about a career with the company that I am a part of. Hesitation or discomfort puts the thought that they may be using me to gain experience/training needed to go to other companies. I am forever looking at my daily, weekly, quarterly, annual, five year, ten year and 13 year future (when I plan on retiring). Every move in my life is well thought out ahead of time and is primarily focused on providing a great life for my family. I do not plan on leaving my day job and am constantly looking for additional income streams that do not interfere with my primary income source.

I hate that question. I don't look that far into the future, because things change too much. Who would have thought we would be where we are now with this pandemic? I don't like making plans and having goals and then not being able to see them through to fruition. I learned a long time ago to just float along on the waves, instead of trying to swim against the current.

We are living in very uncertain times right now.  I can't even say where I see myself in 5 days...let alone in 5 years.  And that is probably how I would answer in an interview.  I could answer I would like to be doing this, this, and this as far as a job.  But no matter what they tell you they ARE looking for specific answers when you are asked that in a job interview.

10 purposes this pen can provide?  I would have no idea how to answer something so stupid.  You also can't always just fire back with an answer.  My most hated are the ones where they say "describe a time when..."
Some of the ones I was asked I did not even really have an answer for.  I am not good at lying and making crap up on the spot.

I try not to think that far ahead, but I am not buying any green bananas.

I think within 5 yrs God will bring this manmade/Satanic system to an end and usher in the 1000 rein of Gods kingdom on earth as it is in heaven.

Id love to be a part of a world in peace with a righteous government and the prospect of living forever in a paradise and welcoming back many of my loved ones and people in the resurrection Jesus promised mankind.

Can't say I hate that question as I have never been asked that in an interview but I would like to see myself where I would have like to been five years ago...

honestly i really don't like the question either. i always hated trying to answer it during a job interview. hopefully job interviews etc are now behind me.
in 5 years i hope to be in a retirement community meeting new people and finding some new hobbies! :pumpkin: :rainbow: :peace:

I don't think I have ever been asked that.  I remember in high school in a business type class being taught how to do resumes and about job interviews.  Most of the advice we were given was completely incorrect.

In 5 years I plan to be retired.  We haven't decided where we want to settle.  I want to be close to grandkids.

I'll be 68 in 5 years. Don't see any big difference coming up.  Hope to be healthy and  have read a lot of books.
