« on: September 02, 2020, 04:13:08 pm »
Our minimum wage went up at the beginning of september. it went from $11-12. per hour. It is scheduled to go up 3 more times in the next 3 years topping out at $15. per hour by 2023.  That is gonna be a big rise  and people need it these days.

I heard that similar thing will happen in MA, good news for those that will benefit from this as living expenses are quite expensive in MA.

When does the minimum increase suppose to increase?  How much?  Is this straight across the board or are these increases going to be staggered?

I live in North Carolina and I haven't heard anything about our minimum wage going up.  It would be nice for the employees, but not for the employers.

That would be good news if it happened in my state. I'm unemployed right now and hope to get back to work soon.

Hi! :) :D

While I agree we all could use an income boost right around now. Nevertheless the price of everything would also go up with the rise. I think with money you can't ever be truly madly deeply satisfied you always want more. Still is a good thing though ya.  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:   :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:

I hope this increase applies across the board and not just in certain areas.

It won't make any difference.  The price of everything you purchase goes up so then you are not really making any more money. People are too stupid to grasp that.  I remember when min wage was $5.25 and milk was a little over $1 a gallon.  Now min wage is $7.25 and most places are paying at least $10 some (at least in my area still pay $7.25) and milk is around $5 a gallon.  So yes your paycheck is a larger amount but you pay more for everything you buy.

For some it is not a matter of just wanting more.  It is a matter of being paid enough to pay your bills.  There is a local motel that is hiring for people to clean the rooms.  They complain that they can't get anybody to work.  They pay $7.25 an hour and people get 10-12 hours a week and the hours are sporadic all over the place. So you can't even work a 2nd job.

If you work a 5 hour shift 7.25*5hrs= $36.25
Then take out taxes at apx 16% $36.25  ..... 36.25- $5.80  and you have $30.45  Not many people are going to clean nasty motel rooms for a 5 hour shift and only get paid $30.45

I can see it both ways.  People need enough to live on but things are so expensive that when you raise the pay then the price of everything will go up as well.  I think the problem started when flunky no education jobs started being a career for people and they figured out they could not live on that and wanted more pay.  Retail and fast food positions were never meant to be life long jobs unless you were going to work your way up to management.  And managers of stores like Walmart, Dollar General, and the like make really good.  Our Walmart the manager makes well over $100,000 a year.  At Christmas a few years ago the store met some kind of goal and the manager (who did not do the work that made the goal reality) got a $10,000 bonus.  Some employees got a bonus but if you are hired as temporary or seasonal you do not get any bonuses when the rest of the store gets them.

Your state has nothing to do with the OP state.  THEIR state min wage went up.  The National Min Wage is not increasing.

The Government or anything National has nothing to do with it. It amazes me at how clueless people are about things like this or how it works.  The individual states can set a min wage for their state.  In that situation then if you work in THAT state you will make the STATE set min wage.  My state does not have an individual min wage.  Ours is the national min wage which is 7.25 an hour.

I just don't get people saying "oh I hope my state gets it too"  It is not something the state gets.  It is kind of like a law for that state.  Kind of like the legal age of adulthood is different in different states.  Some it is 18 and some it is 19.
