Which is MOST likely to lower your risk of diabetes?

A.  Take vitamin D
B.  Eat more full-fat dairy
C.  Lose excess weight
D.  Cut carbs
E.  Eat less fat

C. Losing as little as 12 pounds can lower your risk, whether you cut carbs, fat, or other calories.  Vitamin D doesn't help.  Full-fat dairy hasn't been tested in clinical trials.

I have a friend who got Diabetes II because she became obese & didn't even try to better her eating practices so she wouldn't have to be hooked on insulin.  She would just eat whatever & then shoot up... didn't even try to lose weight or change her eating habits, it just got worse & worse.   Obesity & Diabetes II go hand & hand, are there people who are obese that don't have diabetes II?

If your friend keeps on like you have described, she could be losing her eyesight or a limb through amputation...or possibly both.  I hope she fully realizes that diabetes is actually a dangerous disease.

Some drugs can also cause it.  Once I was in the hospital for 11 days.  One day the nurse came in and said I’m giving you an insulin shot.  I looked at her and said I’m not diabetic .  She smiled and said the meds you are on now have given you diabetics, but once you are off the meds you will be fine.  After I left the hospital I had blood tests and I’m fine, no diabetics.

Very helpful, thanks for sharing the tips. When I took the quiz myself, I thought Cutting Carbs would be the answer as others have mentioned it will help to reduce excess weight.

I would guess everything but the dairy would be good.  Trying to be as healthy as possible is good for most issues.  My 37 year old nephew is 123 pounds and diabetic will will not take care of himself properly.  He just came out of a two week coma and is now in rehab.  I hope this encourages him to do right because he just got a second chance.

The last time I visited my doctor, she told me I was pre-diabetic and that I had better lose weight so I would not get full-blown diabetes. I have been able to lose about 10 pounds so far and am looking forward to her testing me again to see if that helped the situation at all.
