Meeting people via phone/home based work.
« on: August 24, 2020, 07:30:11 pm »
I really don't mind it.  I wish it paid different.  I got my first check today.  Not bad for just a few hours.  It seems like it is taking longer to make that now.  Had some tech.  problems.  Not sure who's end it was on.  The calls kept getting dropped.  I am still learning as  I go.  I am hopeful that I will get pretty good at this.  I had few people that liked to talk.  And about anything.  Their pets, what they are having for dinner.  I get the impression that some people just want to talk.  Esp. now that most are home bound because of the virus.  I like people that aren't in a rush and don't try to rush me.  That way you can have fun.  Meeting people via phone.

When I was a telemarketer, we weren't supposed to take too long on the call. But we were calling a lot of older folks, and they really liked to chit chat. Some even said thanks for calling (to a telemarketer!). They were lonely, and it was nice for them to talk to someone, even a stranger. I was too much a softie to interrupt. I was so bad at that job! Lol!

I don't meet people via phone I guess because I don't do home base work.

I am always curious and leery when people are so vague and say oh I work from home or I do "home based work" lol.  Kind of makes me think it is just another form of a site like this one.  Not a real job.  I have mentioned before over hearing a conversation in the vet office.  Two women in the waiting area.  One said to the other Oh I have not seen you in forever.  Where are you working now.  And all she would say is "oh I work from home".  So in other words you draw a check off the government and do surveys and call that your job.

I can understand in some circumstances.  I do things similar to this site but I have never acted like it was a job or that I "worked" for the company I do online stuff with.

I am not a fan of the phone, so that makes it harder to meet new people on the phone.

Sounds like you've found a fun job chatting :)   Do you get paid by the hour, or by the phone call... that would matter if people wanted to just chat.

People do just want to talk sometimes - I volunteered at a suicide prevention hotline for years, & there would be regular callers who would just want to chat, & some people would call with the same issues over & over & try to get new people on the phone to just spend time with them. Very sad really... like that Beatle song about All the Lonely People.

I imagine there are people who do just want that personal touch of talking to someone - anyone!  With being home-bound or in isolation, there are a lot of lonely folks out there.

I don't live off the government.  I earn a pay check.  There was a time that I did make a good income from doing sites like this one.  So I even would consider that a job.

I don't make calls I receive calls.  They call about specific things and I help the callers with questions and orders.  The place didn't really say how long they expect a call to last.

Always been skeptical of home based jobs because most that are advertised are fake. The ones that usually scam you out of money promising good money for doing minimal work. Honestly could not do telemarketing because I'd probably get annoyed at someone at some point and say the hell with it.
