Working at the Post Office used to be a dream job.  Benefits and good hours.

I could kick my butt for not applying when I had the chance. My dad worked for the post office part time after he retired from the post office and told me I could have a job if I applied and I should hurry up before the changed the employees to civil service. I was young and dumb. Problem was I had 2 kids and needed a full time job. He said everyone started out part time. I failed to ask the wages. Found out later I would have been making just as much in 2-3 days as I would in my 5-day job.

Just because your dad retired does not mean you could have his job. I find it odd you had no idea how much money your dad was making working at the Post Office.  But jobs like that have always been you start at the bottom and you work up.  And a lot depends on civil service test scores.  Never known of a job like the post office being a oh I am quitting my kid can have my job type of thing.

I just talked to our mail carrier and he said he does not think there is any real danger of the postal service stopping delivering of mail.  Although there are some issues.  The media lies.  People need to remember that.

We are having problems because Trump has kicked out the former postmaster to be replaced with one of his cronies who is a YES man.  Trump did this because of so many people doing mail in votes.  Why does he have the power to shut down the mail?  He will do anything to get re-elected again.

The mail has been slower lately so something is going on.

Wow this is unreal - I had to stop mail prescriptions because instead of putting them at my door when they said "perishable" the mail "person" would put them in the package lock box for my community and they would be hotter than well you know.  I used to order from Harry and David and they said Fedex.  But what they would do is send them fedex and then the post office would "finish" I had stuff sit there during Christmas for weeks before I tracked them down so I called Harry & David and said shop all the way fedex or I will stop ordering from you.  Worse our mail man is a total "jerk"

We have had some really great postal workers.  When we lived out in the middle of nowhere in Colorado the mailman really did always deliver.  The post service/office is in the constitution, so  it will not be as easy as he thinks to get rid of.  I have a mail order business and I have been complaining for a few months how the delivery was slowing down.  The postal service is the largest employer of veterans  in the United States.
