Indian Matchmaking on Netflix
« on: August 20, 2020, 01:32:25 pm »
Did anyone else watch Indian Matchmaking on Netflix?  I went into the show thinking how outdated and old fashioned arranged marriages were, but came out with a whole new perspective!!  It's a fascinating concept.  A professional matchmaker finds someone (who is also looking to settle down, get married, and have a committed life with someone) who shares your core beliefs, has similar interests, etc.  The couples meet (with their families and parents) and ultimately the couple gets to decide if they are interested in pursuing a relationship leading to marriage with the other person or not.  If not, the matchmaker looks for another "match" for them.  The matchmaker also sometimes sends a person to a relationship expert if she thinks the person is unconsciously doing something that keeps her from finding a good match.  It just sounds so efficient and you'd have a much better chance of finding a quality person who is looking for the same things in life as you are.  So much better than Match.com or tinder.  Someone should start a service like this in the USA!!!

I also think it's a fine old tradition, especially if the couple can choose not to marry and be matched with other people. You hear about in the old days that people (especially woman) were forced by their parents to marry whoever they were matched with. But these days it's actually a pretty good thing to use a matchmaker who can connect people with similar religious and moral backgrounds (if that's what they're looking for) and similar tastes, etc.  :peace:
