Never considered or thought about this before even though I've got some pretty badly damaged packages before here and there with very little to cushion the stuff inside. Kinda lazy if you ask me. A couple times ordered a bike through a catalog and when i got it was practically falling out of the box they came in both times

Some stuff may or may not be the fault of the shipper.  One thing I think of is things that can reveal what is inside the package. Most stuff like that you are told when you order it.  I saw reviews on an expensive coffee maker and some were complaining because it was basically the box the coffee maker came in just sitting inside another box. I have started adding some info that I think would be useful when I do reviews. Especially with so many people ordering stuff right now. I try to include information that I have wondered about when I was thinking about ordering items that were not just something I knew would be in a box.  I remember once I ordered a small package of 12 piece beads like for a bracelet.  It was shipped in a HUGE box. smh  If they had shipped it normal it would have fit in the mailbox. But was shipped in a box large enough to put 2 toasters in. lol

I have also noticed some people do reviews and all the talk about is the package arrived later than promised or crying because they did not knock on the door.  UPS and FEDEX are not required to knock on your door and wait for you to come to the door to get your package. Unless it requires a signature.

My biggest concern with packaging is whether or not it will give away the surprise if I've bought a present for my husband.  I've even gone so far as to send the package to my neighbor's house, just in case.  A few times I've actively tried to find out if the packaging has a logo to reveal what's inside, but it's not always possible to find that out.  Reviews don't normally mention whether or not the package reveals what's inside.  My husband, generally, is the one to retrieve a package from the front porch, so I hate for him to see what I've ordered for him. Some companies will ask if you want generic packaging.  Amazon has done that for me.

when i buy something on ebay I will look to see how they are going to package it. If I am buying from a name brand store I have always assumed that they know what they are doing. I guess reviews are the only well to tell how something is going to come in a package.

SO...You answered my question. You would like if you read reviews and that info was included! :D
I have ordered things before that actually said the package will be shipped in the original box and it will give away what is inside the package. I guess that is why amazon has "this is a gift" when I buy stuff off someone's wish list. So it will be shipped in a way to not give away what it is. idk.

I think a lot of people that never thought about this before are thinking about it now. :D

This is exactly why I use Amazon Prime, if it doesn't arrive in good shape they take care of it (which is very seldom).

When you are looking to purchase an item online and you read reviews are you interested in how the item is packaged? Some things especially bigger items I like to know how it is packaged.

I haven't given the packaging much thought.  I have had very good luck ordering from Amazon.  But, I am confidant that Amazon would step up and help out if an item arrived damaged due to poor packaging.

When I buy something online, more often then not I do my home work. I think it is best to read those reviews even if a lot of them are made up.

I don't know that they are made up.  But you can't always believe them.  Esp really negative ones.  Sometimes people get mad and go too far to the bad ripping the item apart.  I have also gave a really good review on something (because I reviewed it to quickly) and wished I could go back and change it.  One item was a pair of tennis shoes.  They fell apart after 3 months. But at first they were great.

I have seen several instances where the reviewer has gone back and updated their review after a time lapse.  You really can't judge a product as soon as it arrives.  You have to use it awhile to be sure.
