Here We Go Again!
« on: August 02, 2020, 12:21:42 pm »
I just came back from grocery shopping at a major chain.  The shelves for cleaning supplies were empty, laundry detergent was sparse, and noodles were very sparse.  I guess it’s stocking up time again for some people.

Here in central Florida we are going through hurricane potential plus high covid so I am afraid to go to the store to even see what they have or don't have.  I did do a walmart pickup order recently and had quite a few substitutions but I figured I could live with it because something is better than nothing.  I need fresh veggies but I don't want to go to Publix right now so I will make do with what I got.  But I do agree with you about the here we go again.

Here in ca stores are stocked well. Except for trader Joe's my son said when he went they didn't have  much and only 6 people in the store. Farmers though are throwing away a lot of food.

Donnamarg, no, I’m in PA.  I have a brother in Miami maybe you got confused with one of my posts.  No offense to those in Florida but thankfully I’m not there now.  But thank you for the stay safe.

Some things are not coming in from the manufacturer. If you do not believe me TALK TO A MANAGER!  Our Walmart the dept manager in dry foods said he can't get the Ramen Noodles in.  He orders them and they send a small amount.  So what does come in gets gone.  Quick.

That is shocking for raman noodles. here in the local grocery store there are cases and cases of raman. I guess it is not that big of an issue here. As for the cleaning supplies there is a limit on what can be bought

I've noticed this recently, not with food though, with small items being manufactured & supplied from China. There is definitely a break in the supply chain.  I've noticed this when I went to Harbor Freight last week, they were out of SO much stuff -- batteries, rechargeable batteries, gloves - almost all types of gloves & they must have about 20 types, in all sizes but only some XXlarge or Xlarge... the worker said they don't know what is even coming in the trucks anymore, they order & there isn't enough stock to fill the order.

I've seen simpler shortages on household items in the 99cent store & dollartree -- & even in home Depot.  I tried ordering off ebay the other day, a once common product which i've purchased for years multiple times & they were almost impossible to find & the ones I found were limited on the color & the price was almost double.

The end for cheap goods from China, time for manufactures to return to the States... thankfully, Kodak is the beginning of our drugs being manufactured back here.

That was why I asked the guy who works in that area.  I did not realize he was a dept manager.  He said he orders it but they are not sending him near what he asks for.  So what little bit that comes in gets gone quick.  I guess it is a easy to fix meal and it lasts a long time. All you need is water.  I use to really like that stuff but I think I ate it too much cause now I don't care for it as much.  I have also noticed things like the Mac and Cheese being pretty empty.  But again, you just add water.

I had not noticed that at all.  It may also depend on where you live. But people cannot grasp that. Things like gloves are in short supply because people are buying PPE. I am seeing a few people wearing gloves when they shop.  I have cleaning stuff and don't need any more than I ever did. I have not looked for batteries but actually do need some the next time I think of it when I am in town.  As for our Dollar Tree it seems to be stocked pretty well.  For a while some of the cleaning stuff stayed empty.  The stuff that was empty an employee said it is not that they don't have it or that it is being bought.  It is because employees are LAZY and don't get it put out.

The shelves aren't totally bare but it also hasn't been replenished to its fullest as well.

It would be interesting to know if you live in a hurricane prone area. I think a lot of people are trying to be stocked for at least a month or so.  Although I have talked to people who are stocked for like a year and are still buying stuff. I know people who before all this started could not have made it over a few days on what was in their house. Funny how some people have things on hand and some have nothing on hand.

I think as we move towards the fall and hear how the virus has been increasing, people are buying more items again.  But please learn from our prior experience.  Don't buy 6 packages of toilet paper or whatever.  Buy maybe 2 and leave for others.  That way the supply chain can better keep up!
