Garden

We had 4 inches of rain on Friday and my garden was under water for two days - looks like the plants are dying - anyone have any thoughts.

My garden is shot too, between the heat, heavy rain, and animals eating it, there is hardly anything left.

Plants have a way of surviving.  I just transplanted a bunch of strawberries.  Half of which look good the other half is real iffy.   I am hopeful that they will manage to come back.  The heat is the reason I think they look so bad.  Good luck to both of you.

I was in the same situation and it hurt me very much to see that all my work that I did to make the garden beautiful was ruined. It was especially painful for my husband who put even more soul in this garden and when he saw what happened he was close to having a heart attack.
He always ordered from gardeningtoolshq.com new things for the garden and took great ideas that we realized together and it was really a hard and long period until we restored the garden.

The heat has got most of mine.  I am putting in some new raised bed for next year.  That will have sun covering and water.

Not a lot you can do.  They may perk back up after it dries up.  But the roots may have got too wet and cause them to rot.  Was your garden actually under water or just puddles of water in your garden?  When it dries out if the plants were bigger and sturdy they may be just fine.

Yeah unfortunately you can't really do anything to fix overwatering besides just wait for it to dry out. If you expect still more rain you might try covering the garden bed up with a tarp or something.

If you do this you need to make sure the tarp is well supported because if it puddles in the middle it will crush your plants.  And if it is a good sized garden it will be too big to cover.  We have had quite a bit of rain the past couple days and I just got a notice it is suppose to be heavy rain again in the morning.  I only have a few tomato plants left and they ain't too hearty so I don't guess it matters if they drown lol

Ended up rotting most of the roots - few made it through. A lot of work for a little output this year.

I must say that my garden did well until the heat of the sun and rain got here. Sorry about the disappointments. I usually try to start everything from seed so my losses won't be too bad.

I'm sorry. I know how much time I put into my garden, and its heartbreaking when the weather destroys your hard work.  Its happened to us too, so I know how you feel.

In Southern California, we get very little rain.

Have you put a cover over your garden so it won't get drench from the rain?

When I have a garden I usually have it up higher than the ground itself about 6 inches to a foot so if it did mildly flood nothing bad could or would happen to the plants. Losing a garden to anything is a low blow for sure and kinda kick to gut because of all the hard work put into it. As for those who lost gardens good luck next year
