Funeral
« on: July 08, 2020, 05:32:28 am »
One of my friends passed away from cancer.  Today is her funeral and it will be my first drive by funeral, as she has a large family and we are only allowed 25 people at any gathering.  I will miss her so much.

Never heard of a drive by funeral. In my area they are not allowing an actual funeral. Unless something has changed. The funny thing is church and funerals are exempt from the suggestion of not having more than 10 or 20 or whatever it is at this time. We were never under a lock down mandate.

We had to have a grave side service for a family member at the first of May. We did have more than 10 at the grave side service. And NONE of us got sick.

It was private property so I guess they could not do much.  Is this the friend you were talking about a couple weeks ago? Sorry for your loss.

Country girl, yes it’s the same friend I was talking about.  She gave it a good shout, but sadly her body just got too tired.  I have no idea what this will be like today, a new experience never had a drive by funeral.

There is a time to mourn and a time to cry says the good book Nancy.....but there is a hope.

You might find added comfort from your animal friends too.

The number of people allowed varied by country, 25 is actually a pretty big number. Haven't heard of a drive by funeral before. Best wishes.

Seems like I heard the phrase a while back but did not know at all what it was or meant. It is sad what is happening. Hopefully at least her family was able to be with her when she passed.

I don't think I have ever been to a funeral that only had 25 people attend.

I haven't heard of a drive by funeral before either.  Such sad times.  I understand distancing and limiting the number of people to a degree, but wow, this would be an extremely difficult time to not be able to comfort others with a touch, a hug.

Condolences to you, it is very difficult during these challenging times to attend funerals but at least you have your fond memories so hold them dear.

Kind thoughts and memories have no social distancing restrictions, so it can still serve the family.  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:

We just returned from the funeral.  At the funeral home the casket was outside (under a large roof) and her immediate family, (husband, children, spouses, brothers & sisters) stood or sat by the casket.  You drove by, viewed the body and continued on to a parking lot.  There was no touching to any family member, of course the family was able to be together   After time we all followed the hearse to the cemetery where each car was given kind of a walkie-talkie where we could hear the minister’s prayers and the final funeral.  The funeral home men then walked to each car, thanked us for coming from the family, took the walkie-talkie back and we came home.  My husband and I just looked at each other, we have never seen or experienced anything like that before,

They often have a condolence/guest book at funeral homes and funerals for those paying respects to sign and the family is then able to keep that afterward as a remembrance of those who felt the need to offer condolences. I would expect that is not possible to do at a drive by, which is a sad reality. That can be a therapeutic item for the family to reflect on years later when it is difficult to remember everyone who was there to offer comfort at the time. But I suppose something (a drive by) is better than nothing (solitary loneliness).

I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your friend, Nancy5. Hopefully she will have a good turnout at her drive-by funeral. Sounds like she will be missed by many.  :peace:
