In response to being asked how the president's thinking gets shaped, whether by TV or advisors, Bolton stated:

"A combination of television and listening to people outside the government that he trusts for one reason or another.  I think if you could clock the amount of time he's spent actually in the Oval Office versus the amount of time he spends in the little dining room off the Oval Office with the cable news networks of one form or another on--it would be a very interesting statistic."

This is probably true.  Trump's a narcissist...personal opinion, of course, not trying to offend anyone.

John Bolton is a war monger, he is probably still salty that Trump didn't get us into a war in Syria & Iran... not to mention North Korea.  The US military industrial complex isn't being fed, first time in forever that the US isn't in a war with some nation -- people don't like it, people aren't making money "rebuilding" nations they've torn apart. No one should be listening to John Bolton, the promoter of Weapons of Mass Destruction & us getting in a War with Iraq after 9/11... based on John Bolton's lies of those never found Weapons of Mass Destruction. 

US not bombing people is a good thing, but not to John Bolton.

I haven't always agreed with Bolton's international policies but I think what he stated regarding Trump certainly sounds correct to me when you take into consideration what comes out of Trump's own mouth and what I have heard from other sources.  Bolton seems to confirm both!
