I make Irish soda bread but nothing else.

I don't know what that is but may look in to that.  I have heard of soda bread.  This has a recipe for fruit cake and you can also make jam and jelly in it. It even has a recipe for Greek Yogurt.  I saw something on Pinterest that is some kind of flat bread.  I thought about trying that but from my experience a lot of stuff on Pinterest does not turn out too good.  I don't know why.  It is not just me because if you look at the comments a lot of others have the same issues I have.

I just got the machine and I am looking for a recipe because the ones that came with it are basic. I found a cheddar cheese bread that I wanted to try but it calls for kosher salt and I don't even know what that is. I assume I will not have that. I have everything else.

Kosher salt is like sea salt - large chunks instead of fine grains. It's good at drawing moisture out of veggies and meat. (My ex scolded me once because I didn't kosher salt my zucchini before I added it in my lasagna.  ::)) It also doesn't have additives, like iodine in table salt. I'm pretty sure you can substitute table salt, but you may want to use a little less.

I have pretzel salt and also sea salt so I wondered if the sea salt would work. I need powdered milk for the recipe I am going to use. IF I can find it.  Our Walmart has been out of it for weeks.  They have a couple in stock now but it may be gone by the time I get there.  I would not think that would be a super popular item because it is not good to drink and I am not sure how well it would work in a recipe that takes milk either.

If you have sea salt, I think that would be a better substitute than table salt. I have no idea if there's a substitute for powdered milk though.

Years ago I had a bread machine.  My first loaf, though delicious, cost $200.  I made a second loaf and figured I now had 2 $100 loaves.  Eventually I gave up on the bread machine and just made it in bread pans in the oven.  There is NOTHING as good as homemade bread.

I read something in my book and thought about you.  It says to always add the yeast last and to not let the yeast come in to contact with any liquid. I did not know that.  The pretzel recipe I found on Pinterest said to mix the yeast with the water.  My bread book that I got with this machine says do not ever do that and it will mess up the consistency of the bread.  It says dig a small hole in the flour and put the yeast there.

I always add my yeast to warmed sugar water.

Id think the water way makes the yeast start faster. And therefor it would be a quick cooking bread.

So breads you bake longer you just add dry yeast,  so it wont rise as fast and be denser

Im only guessing here, those who bake bread would probably know.

Let us know what you decide to make, and how it turned out :)

What I read said the liquid messes the yeast up. Idk. I always done what you said as well. I have the bread in the machine now. I will let you know. I am on the phone with customer support with a woman I cannot understand at all. I have a question that she does not seem to understand. All she does is repeat what I said back to me or part of what I said back to me. Or answer something totally off the wall.  Smh.

Since the quarantine my wife has been making bread since she has more time on her hands. It has been pretty good so far.

I had to throw the first loaf away. I finally did figure out what went wrong. I made a second loaf (white bread) and it turned out pretty good.  I want some fancy bread recipes. Not had a lot of time to look. Most recipes I am finding do not tell the size of the loaf. I have to input the weight on the machine before starting the process.

What brand did you get?  I'm really interested in getting one but there are way too many to choose from.  I want one that able to make different kinds

I've only made homemade banana bread.

check youtube for bread maker recipes for beginners maybe?

Its trial and error. You will get it right! Might make some sinkers a few times in the process :)

We've been making a lot of homemade bread, lately. So much better than store bought bread!
