I used to make my own bread and my own butter but that was years ago. I used to make some for hubby's hunting camp. I first only made a loaf for the 3-day camp. They liked it so much, they would eat it all the same night. So for next year, I made 10 loaves for the 5 guys. Gone the second day. That was back before bread machines and dough hooks for mixers.

I remember churning butter once when I was a kid.

lol  Well..... I am hoping since it is basically dumping the stuff in to a machine it will work.  I sure hope so.   I know what you mean about older folks and using their recipes.  I am convinced they leave a step out when they pass it on so yours is never quite as good. :)

I made chicken and dumplings once and my pappaw was not easy to please. He said it tasted almost as good as what his momma made.  Mammaw told me you have no idea how big of a compliment that is.

I love homemade bread, but i'm usually too lazy to make it.  I will however make homemade beer bread.  It tastes great and is so easy to make!!  Beer, flour, sugar, and salt.  Done!

Awe thats something to treasure :)

LOL About leaving a step out. Yeah maybe they do LOL!

I know I have a couple recipes I just wont share with others

Oh and I have made sourdough bread before, with a starter I made. I cant recall how it turned out tho. but I know not everyone likes the taste of sourdough bread. That sounds so good right now! I like it when making a grilled/toasted sandwich. I wonder what it would taste like as a pizza crust

I just got the machine and I am looking for a recipe because the ones that came with it are basic. I found a cheddar cheese bread that I wanted to try but it calls for kosher salt and I don't even know what that is. I assume I will not have that. I have everything else.  I read something in my book and thought about you.  It says to always add the yeast last and to not let the yeast come in to contact with any liquid. I did not know that.  The pretzel recipe I found on Pinterest said to mix the yeast with the water.  My bread book that I got with this machine says do not ever do that and it will mess up the consistency of the bread.  It says dig a small hole in the flour and put the yeast there.

Maybe I will look for a sour dough bread recipe for the first one. I like that.  There is no way to make the cheese bread like the grocery store does unless I made the bread then sprinkle cheese on top (cause theirs has it on the top) and then put back in oven for a few.  This bakes the bread basically on it's side. Like long ways. If that makes sense.

There's nothing quite like homemade bread! Get it when it's just out of the oven, sooo great with butter! I haven't done it in years and surely miss it.

Kosher salt is like sea salt - large chunks instead of fine grains. It's good at drawing moisture out of veggies and meat. (My ex scolded me once because I didn't kosher salt my zucchini before I added it in my lasagna.  ::)) It also doesn't have additives, like iodine in table salt. I'm pretty sure you can substitute table salt, but you may want to use a little less.

I have pretzel salt and also sea salt so I wondered if the sea salt would work. I need powdered milk for the recipe I am going to use. IF I can find it.  Our Walmart has been out of it for weeks.  They have a couple in stock now but it may be gone by the time I get there.  I would not think that would be a super popular item because it is not good to drink and I am not sure how well it would work in a recipe that takes milk either.
