Have you ever had a book published?
« on: October 20, 2009, 01:38:05 am »
I've written a children's book and I think it may be good enough to publish. I can't afford to self publish and I really have no idea where to go from here. Any ideas?

Wish I could help you. I've had 2 childrens books published, but I wrote them while I was in high school and the school was the entity that lead to its publications.  Given that, you may want to call local universities around you and ask to speak with english or language professors. They may be able to give you advice on the direction to head.

I have known people to go ahead and publish the book themselves and then sell copies at their church, home, internet etc.

:wave:First look up a good lit. agent . They read the book, and give it to a publishing house ,if it's any good.. If you send it straight to a publishing house, they throw it out. They get too many to read them all, so they rely on lit. agents to weed out the good from the bad. The agent will take a % of whatever the publishing company agrees on. (payment}, BUT IT'S WORTH IT.!!!

I was recently thinking of publishing one of my brothers books that he wrote for a college class. I came across this site. Blurb.com It seems reasonable to publish it yourself. Of course you would have to make your own sales but I still think its worth checking out.

just send it out to different companies and if they like it and think it will make money then you have a good chance of getting it published. You just have to put yourself out there

I'm in the process of writing a children book. It is somewhat of a fun project because I am illustrating it for myself. I really don't know what is my next step but I will check out the website that was mentioned. Thanks for all the helpful information.

I published a non-fiction book a few years ago.  I went the self-publishing route and it was pretty easy and inexpensive.
