Government Check Scam
« on: April 16, 2020, 06:46:57 am »
Watch out for scams! A friend of ours called me first thing yesterday saying he was reading an email that said if he didn't file taxes for 2018-2019, he had to go to a certain site and put in his bank info so he would get his "stimulus funds." Not so. It's a scam. I don't think he fell for it (I hope). IRS stated that these checks aren't called "stimulus checks." They are called  "economic impact payment"  by the IRS and the IRS does not call or email anyone about these checks.

I have been receiving scam emails a lot over the years but it's getting really bad now... especially about charge cards I no longer have and companies I buy from but the way I tell if it's real is from the "FROM" email. If it doesn't have the company's "@copmany name.com," it's fake. I'm so tired of sending these emails to the companies because some days, it takes hours. At least Nigeria has given up on me after 7 years. If they were so true, I'd be a 10x billionaire by now.   >:(

That's just awful that people want to do such evil at a time like this.  They really have no conscious.

It is so sad that people are taking advantage of each other when the world is on fire.

I've already gotten a few of scams, or I assume they would have been scams if I had opened the emails. People never miss a chance to be rotten.

It is NOT a scam.  It is the truth.  If you don't file taxes there is a government website you can go to in order to put your info in.  People are also having to do this (and are keeping the site crashed) because a good chunk of people did not get their money because it was deposited in to the wrong account.

Yes, there is a portal that you can go to, to input your bank account information so that you can receive your stimulus check by direct deposit instead of waiting for a check in the mail. However, receiving an email about this could very well be a scam, and it is sad to see just how many scams truly are out there. If you haven’t gotten your payment yet, make sure to go to the proper government website to input your information in case they don’t already have it on file. I guess the irs already had my checking account information on file, so I received my stimulus payment on the 15th already.

I know someone who did not get their payment. You can't go to the website. The website is down constantly because thousands of people are trying to get on to see why they did not get their payment or put payment info in because they don't file taxes. The local news said a lot of people have not got theirs yet. So they are still just waiting.  I am afraid theirs is one of the ones that got deposited in to the wrong account.  I guess eventually it will get straightened out but it is frustrating.

Heard about this don't even open the email. Like to see them call me I'd be cussing and swearing at um left and right. Might be fun. I still haven't gotten anything myself and husband are on s.s. So they said might come this week. We have bank info with s.s.  So that is suppose to be all needed.

Hello!

It is sad about all the out pour of scams going around because of the pandemic. Some people have not yet gotten their checks from the government and are desperate as bills are due for this month. While others just want more and are just greedy. Not to worry this too shall pass.

OMG! I've get them too! Some saying I'm gonna go to Jail because April 14th had passed & I haven't filed my taxes. I freaked out & told my big sis about it(she does my taxes). She said it was a scam bc this year's tax return filing is due in July!

As the news and elsewhere stats that the scammers are definitely 24 hours a day.  You don't need to submit anything to get your stimulus check or whatever they are calling it.

Wrong. IRS never emails. How would they know your email address. The information I gave from the IRS site.  We don't file taxes anymore and we got our check the at the end of April. It states right on the site that if you receive SS, you don't have to do anything.
