Coronavirus Testing
« on: March 17, 2020, 01:29:45 am »
I just found out that to find out if you are positive for this virus is through nasal swabbing in each nostril. Looks painful, like how far in the nose will they go? :'( :'(

I thought it was a mouth swab. Also heard it was a blood test. So who knows. When they do the nasal swab for the flu some say they shove it pretty far up your nose.  Good way to get hit.

I had to have the flu test a couple weeks ago. They did both the throat and the nose swabs. It goes up pretty far but it tickles and very uncomfortable. The nurse said he was glad it tickled, he had been hit many times because most dont say it tickles. LOL.  I think they also do both for the virus.

This Lab has started a treatment testing, not a vaccine!  Just started but encourages the people to think a drug might be made available to kill the infected virus, not just avoid it with a vaccine.

Regeneron likely to make coronavirus treatments available ...

Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc is ramping up efforts to develop a set of coronavirus treatments, which could be available for testing or use in some patients within a few months, the drugmaker said ...

Regeneron said the treatments could be made available through a “compassionate use” program that provides patients access to experimental drugs outside of a clinical trial when there are no viable alternatives.

“We’re already scaling up one set of potential antibody treatments,” Chief Scientific Officer George Yancopoulos said on a conference call with analysts.

Regeneron has said it is focusing on developing infection-fighting proteins known as monoclonal antibodies and use the same technology that was used to develop an experimental drug to treat Ebola in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Everything they've been showing on TV showed people getting nasal swabs. Trump said of his own testing that it was not pleasant, but I'm sure being the president they took blood and more than they would do for the average joe.

They do nasal and mouth swabs. No blood tests. I feel sorry for the one guy who has been stuck in quarantine for 39 days in, I believe, Utah. He was on the ship that was docked in Japan and had a slight fever. They test him every 2 days and he tests positive every time. Yet he feels great and no fever. I'm wondering if they screwed up the tests. He wants to get back home to his wife. I don't blame him.

I heard the the test is by a swab that is 6" long & goes all the way in your nostril & down your throat... & you have to tilt you head back.

Wait, they shove it up your nose and down in to your throat through your nose?  Yeah, I am not getting that test.

I'm sure it's two different swabs.....

Better than getting blood drawn in my opinion....

remember...the virus starts in your throat and gets released via nose/exhaling so it makes sense to swab there...

I know they CAN go through the nose and in to the throat. That sounds painful. lol  I think it is just something they shove up your nose and they shove it about 6 inches up.  That sounds painful.  If you are not sick you do not need to be tested and you won't be tested.  That is just wasting tests.

Actually, I'd rather they take blood.  A guy from my church recently was tested for the flu and he said it was worse than the very long needle he had inserted into his shoulder when he had surgery on it.  He said it was awful.
