Today's grocery trip WOW
« on: March 15, 2020, 11:01:16 am »
Today I went to the grocery store and WOW for a sunday even with the coronavirus scare I didn't expect it to be so packed.  I also found out they are closing at 8pm every night instead of 10pm.  And there were a lot of blank spaces on the aisles.  I hope I don't have to go back for 2 or 3 weeks.  It was insane.  Have you found similar experiences at your local grocery store?

Yes, my husband usually goes grocery shopping every Sunday as soon as the store opens. He said there were a lot more people than usual for that time of day. Of course, there were still a lot of empty shelves too. And there were 6 checkout lanes open instead of just one or two. It's ridiculous.

This started happening Thursday at our Walmart.  And it just kept getting worse. I do not know how today has been but yesterday was insane. By yesterday evening there was pretty much nothing left.  If you watch the news even what the CDC is saying it is no wonder people are stocking up on items.  And I have seen today they are now saying prepare to hunker down longer than previously told.  Working folks can't afford to "hunker down".

I don't need anything and do not plan to go to any stores at all.  If I were a stock person I would just roll the cart out on the floor and get back out of the way. lol   I honestly have not seen anyone fighting over stuff.  Not when I was there anyway.  There was a woman who went physco screaming at a group of employees about how the shelves were empty.  I would not have stood there and listened to her.  They threatened to call the law and she screamed call the law.  We left so I don't know what happened after that.

But from things I am hearing it is crazy online too.

Yes, it is insane all over the country it seems, I guess people are just trying to prepare for whatever we are told next; Just wished our government would have got ahead of this before allowing it to get as out of control as it appears.

Yes! We went to Publix Friday afternoon and to Walmart and Costco Saturday morning, and they were all beyond packed! Costco even had a line to get into the building, a line for paper towels, wipes, and water, and two huge line all the way to the back of the warehouse to check out! And, of course, none of the stores had any toilet paper. My family is so glad that we're already in the habit of keeping more food and other necessities on hand than we need for a couple of days.  :peace:

At my area it took 40mins just to get into the store and almost all items were sold out sadly.

I was out briefly around 9:30pm last night.  I had an errand to run and found little to no traffic -- and this is a highly populated area where traffic at most times, day or night, is the norm.  In fact, I made it to my destination with 10 minutes to spare.  It's eerie.

I'm going to the store today. I hope the shelves aren't empty, but I'm expecting the worse.

I stopped in to get milk and bread yesterday.  Most of the shelves were bare.  They have started rationing items.
Have a wonderful day!

There is NO way the "government" could prepare for this.  But everybody has to find somebody to blame.  The CDC is the problem.  And Trump tried to close the borders but he was ignored and they flew people known to be infected in to the US anyway.  And the "government" has no control over how people will react.  Our Walmart is completely insane.  I drove by at 7:10 this morning and the parking lot was over half full.  I have a friend who works in management and she said as soon as they put ANYTHING on the shelf people are grabbing it.  I don't know what changed by the crazy started about last Thursday in my area.  And no there are not an abundance of cases. Not that we are being told any way.
