How late should later be?
« on: March 10, 2020, 09:59:37 am »
When you try to call someone and they ask if they can talk to you later,  how late after that should later be?
How late would you consider to be rude of them not to call you back?

I generally give the person about an hour, unless it is something urgent; sometimes I may not do until the next day if just depends on what is being discussed.

it depends on the situation. if it is work related and urgent by the end of the day. if not a day or so. :rainbow: :peace:

Interesting question because that is something my youngest son does/says but then later with him sometimes is not at all.  I just wait awhile and then don't worry about it.

Depends on why you called them. Maybe let them call you back.

I think by the end of the day.  I am bad about telling people later and it might be a few days.  Yep I am rude.

I guess it could mean anytime if it is not specified beforehand.
Opinion: 1) a view, judgment, or appraisal formed in the mind about a particular matter 2) belief stronger than impression and less strong than positive knowledge
This is the internet, learn to let people have opinions. And don't be so sensitive.  8)

It depends on why you need to talk to each other.
If it is an emergency, you can call me any time (24 hours).
If it is an emergency, ask the other person if I call the any time.

People aren't rude if they do not call you back.  It would depend on the person and the relationship.  They actually could completely forget to call you back.  If they can't talk to you at the moment maybe they were busy with something.  When they ask if you can talk later if it is really important tell them no, something is wrong.  And tell them what is going on.  My cousin called once and I answered and asked can I call you back.  She started crying and said no ....... and told me what was going on.  I had time to talk in the situation of an emergency.  Even though I had something important I was dealing with at the time.

Within the day I would assume.

If they meant they'll call back the next day, they should have specified that in "I'll call you back tomorrow"

If they flake out on "later" that day then it just rude as a simple text could be sent to notify it would be at a later date.

I don't know about should be but anytime before sundown I think is fair unless you are real close to the person and then it shouldn't matter. So, if they don't call you back when its night, then its rude.
