I talked to a woman recently who is stocking up on certain items.  Not hoarding.  Simple buying a couple extra items.  She also had on a mask.  Yes people were making fun of her and judging her.  BUT if you could get off your high horse long enough to have a conversation you would know this woman has just finished cancer treatments.  She would likely not survive if she got this.  You do not know what other people are going through, their situation, or anything about them.

This is exactly the problem. Elderly people, sick people, and people with compromised immune systems aren't going to be able to buy what they need when other people are stockpiling stuff that they don't immediately need.

My point is YOU do not know the people who are buying nor why.  I have not seen anyone buying large amounts. Just one or two.  So somebody else beat others to it.  Big deal.  How do you know the situation of the people you see buying it? Do you know their health history? Maybe they have elderly they care for or live with and need to avoid this as well.  Besides the fact that this is NOT just a bad cold nor is it just the flu.  You do not shut down countries for just a cold. The toilet paper is being restocked as soon as it is depleted.  SO just buy you some then or sit and do without if deliveries are stopped.  It goes both ways.  I just don't see why people are so upset about what everybody else is doing.

Because what everybody else is doing directly affects them when they can't buy what they need. Why is this hard to understand? I do not buy medicine when I'm not sick, because other people who are actually sick need it. I don't care if you haven't personally seen anyone buying a cartload of toilet paper. The fact is people are buying cartloads of toilet paper, and there are empty shelves and videos to prove it.

And why is it hard for YOU to understand what I am saying? smh  I don't care what YOU have seen.  I know what I have seen.  I know what the video I saw at Costco showed.  I also know what the announcer on the video was saying.  What he was saying was NOT what was being shown in the video.  I usually purchase cold meds to have on hand so if I need it I already have it. Not really worried if somebody else thinks they need it. As I said in another thread I did go to Walmart this morning and there is no TP and a lot of other items are out as well.  People are doing exactly what the CDC said to do.  They are stocking up and preparing for extended period of time in their home or not being able to get items because deliveries are stopped. So if you want to blame somebody blame the CDC.  THEY are who are causing the panic.  IF you call it panic to stock up on items so you will have what you need if things get bad in your area.   I did find TP at a Dollar General store in my town and yes I purchased some. It is none of anybody's business how many I purchased.  Most of the people crying are people who are just mad because they can't do the same thing every one else has done.  Having 3-4 packages of something is not hoarding.  At least they have it.  Yes it is aggravating that there was nothing to buy at WM but not the end of the world.  I can buy it online and have it at my door in two days.

I hope it's overblown, but I don't really think so. Either way everyone needs to take precautions and wash hands a lot.

Whether the virus is over blown or not doesn't matter.  The mass hysteria has hit my area.  I have seen things the past few days that blow my mind.  All the stores in my county have restrictions on what you can buy. One of this and at some maybe you can get two.  I went to Walmart early this morning and there is nothing on the shelf.  I figure by now the shelves are completely bare.  I drove by later and the parking lot is full.  I have talked to people in other counties and it is the same way there.  A manager at our Walmart, who is a friend, told me it will take a while to restock the shelves.  There were idiots in there screaming at employees because they should have the shelves stocked.

The more stuff gets gone the more people will grab whatever is left.  It is like you walk through the store and there is ONE of something and you just grab it because if you don't somebody else will. And there is nothing else to buy.

Maybe people are hoarding the chef boyrdee to sell for $50 a can but I will eat leaves out of the back yard before I pay that.  Reminds me of that song "I wish we'd all been ready" and it says "a piece of bread would buy a bag of gold.

It's just the media going into hysterics because Trump is President. We had the equally concerning 'Swine flu' under Obama and there wasn't HALF the rhetoric.

Sure, be cautious. That's fine. But more people die of the run-of-the-mill flu each year than are likely to die of this.

Why did you start another thread? There are already 3 or 4 with the exact same title.

I can see why you think we need no mods. You're doing a good job of acting the part. lol

lol.  Guess you just look for people to argue with. Hitch quit fight with you all the time so you are now attacking me.  I am not acting anything. Legit question.  I don't get why when there are already 2-3 topics somebody starts a new one.  Need to attention maybe? I am sure the site has moderators. And no, as was suggested else where they are not going to pick people working for pennies on this site to be a moderator.

No need for the drama. No one's 'attacking' you. Seems like you're the one who's looking for attention, by telling folks what topics they can make. It's none of your business why they made the topic. Unless you have something to add about the subject, leave them alone.

If this site has mods, they must be ninjas. Because, they are about as hard to catch. lol But hey, they don't want to make trustee mods from our ranks, then that's on them. This place is getting more like the Wild West everyday.

Well, you're the one always preaching folks shouldn't be 'coddled.' I figured the direct approach would be the most effective to you.  *shrug

 :glasses-nerdy:

There’s a vaccine that might protect against the new coronavirus stored in a freezer in Texas. Yes, that’s the virus that’s killed more than 500 people and infected nearly 30,000. And yes, the key word here is might.
The vaccine was developed in the early 2010s, by a team led by Peter Hotez and Maria Elena Bottazzi at the Baylor College of Medicine. It was originally intended to vaccinate against severe acute respiratory syndrome, aka SARS, which is also a kind of coronavirus.
