The correct masks to wear for prevention and protection are N95 masks. I haven't seen anyone wearing masks in my area, though.
Opinion: 1) a view, judgment, or appraisal formed in the mind about a particular matter 2) belief stronger than impression and less strong than positive knowledge
This is the internet, learn to let people have opinions. And don't be so sensitive.  8)

I made some masks for myself and compromised family members. I am a stay at home wife, and only leave the house every 2-3 weeks for groceries. Most folks in the stores had something on. It helped me not touch my mouth and nose. My husband's work place started making some for the workers, so he wears one at work. It wasn't comfortable, but I didn't mind. Mine was 5 layers of materials. It is probably a good idea as long as folks don't see it as an excuse to not be cautious at all.

Do you have any and are you wearing masks?  I haven’t seen anyone wearing them where I live in PA, but I have heard on the news they are extremely hard to find now.

I made my family masks.  I have been wearing a homemade mask to work for a few weeks.  Today our company required all staff to wear them now.  Even the residents are suggested to wear them; but they have the right to decline to wear it.

They are hard to find - I ordered some but they haven't been delivered.  I understand that Amazon has stopped sales of them & other similar items due to price gouging.  Terrible situation all the way around.

Please tell me you checked where they were made.  A lot of them are made in China.

The majority of the crap you buy is made in China. Including what ever you are using to access this site.  If not the entire device at least parts of it.

The media is making it a wide spread panic. GMA says not to use the masks. Common sense is to wash hands and use sanitizer.

Yep cause GMA is an authority. lol. The CDC says every person should wear a mask any time they go out in public. Washing your hands is not going to keep you from getting an AIR BORNE illness.  Of course wearing a mask can protect you.  If it doesn't then why are the health care workers crying because they can't get them?  They just need to wash their hands when they leave the room.  Then they will be fine.

I see people all the time cough and sneeze and not cover their mouth.  They blow germs and spit all over the place.  This lingers in the air and others can breath it it.  Common sense tells you if you are wearing a mask you will not breathe that in.  I worked on a temporary position for some extra money a couple years ago.  Although I washed my hands about 200 times a day I still was sick the whole time I worked there, because everybody else was sick, and coughed and sneezed and blew their snotty spit all over the place.  One woman even ended up dying.

I do agree the media is making things worse.  And fear mongering.  Last physco thing I heard is this stay at home could last in to 2022.  Not sure how people think they can sit at home for the next 3 years.  Unless you are drawing a check off the government.  But those of us who work can't sit at home for 3 years.  Heck we can't sit at home for 3 months.

from everything i have heard or read a mask is needed if you have a cold or cough. is is meant to protect others from your germs. they believe that coronavirus is so small it can actually make it through the mask :rainbow: :peace:

It depends on who you get your info from.  The last time I was out I did wear a mask and about half the people in the store had one on.  Some jack got snotty with me and said yeah that mask is to protect others from you.  I told her real quick NO I am not sick.  It is to protect me from YOU when you speak or cough and spew your spit dropplets all over the place.  She did not have too much to say after that.  This has people as divided as the political scene.  It is one side or the other and people HATE the ones who do not fall on their side. smh

THE CDC has said that EVERY PERSON who goes out in public should be wearing a mask.  Not just people who are sick.

You cannot find them or get them where I live.  I have seen people wearing masks. But you have no idea why they are doing so. The one lady who had one on talked to me and she had just finished treatments for cancer. Which is NOW in remission. But she is needing to protect herself.  And the masks DO protect you.  If they did not then tell me why the nurses all have them on!  Wearing a mask will keep you from breathing in where people cough and sneeze and are too stupid to cover their mouth.

Yes, anyone who has just gone through cancer treatments and in remission need to wear a mask when out and about because their immune system is very low.  As for other people, they don't really help unless they have been exposed and have the virus as it keeps other people from getting it from that person. They don't help anyone who doesn't have the virus.  Nurses in hospitals wear them during surgery to keep the patient from picking up an infection when they're under the knife. Quite easy with open surgical sites to have that happen..

I had that experience with my first sarcoma surgery. I was placed in a private room and no one could come in unless they were wearing masks and gloves while my knee was bare to the bone for the first week.  All I had was wet antibiotic dressings loosely on my knee and pumped full of antibiotics for the first couple days.

Yes they do.  I don't see how that is so hard for people to grasp.  If you are sick and you are around me and "I" am wearing a mask then that keeps ME from breathing in your germs.  Why else would all the health care workers want them to go in to the rooms of sick people?  OR are all the health care workers sick and trying to keep patients from getting sicker?

This is one of them things nobody is going to agree on.  So I figure if you want to wear a mask then do so.  And if you don't keep your pie hole shut about what other people are doing.  There was a local woman who posted a rant on facebook about this woman at walmart and she was in the craft aisle and in the clearance aisle just shopping like it was a regular summer day.  All I could think was "your stupid self is in the same aisles so don't worry about what she is doing".  I don't do facebook but I am surprised nobody called HER out.  Get your stuff and leave.  Don't worry about what somebody else is buying.

Masks in my area have been unavailable since back at the end of January. CVS told me that when they come in the first person who sees them buys them all.  I imagine so they can resell them online for 10 times what they paid for them.

We now have an elastic shortage in our area.  Everyone and their mothers are making masks around here.
Have a wonderful day!

My daughter works for a pediatricians office and she was able to get one for each of us, including the kids (we have a 3 and 4 years olf grand kids).  They are not the N95, and a bit stronger than the surgical ones, but they are better than nothing.  I order some from Etsy that come with Mask Filters- Healthcare, Allergy, Dust, Pollen which is better than nothing.  i bough some extra filters.  They have not come in yet but are on their way.  I also saw a video on how to make your own without having to saw anything, with a bandanna and you can also add a coffee filter on the inside to help a bit more.

This times are scary and if a mask is going to help somehow prevent a bit of either me getting sick or me giving something to someone else then I am all for it.

Masks and gloves make it worse, but they're required now if you go to stores...all they do is help the person wearing them from being contaminated, but not the person they come in contact with since germs just stay on the surface....healthcare workers are different because they are treating potentially sick people and could come in contact with bodily fluids, etc....plus, they know how to use/dispose of them...
