thanks for the applause but i feel like my grandson has no one else, his mother had a nervous breakdown when her husband left her for another woman you see he was a drug dealer and when they had kids she tried to get him to stop.sorry so much info on here but just dont want you guys think i am just saying that my grandson had no one for attention its quite a mess,if anyone here has read my post from years back you would understand.

You might try and goggle home schooling resources or something of that nature in your area; sometimes there are organizations of parents  who home school their children and they might be a good place to start for support and resources if that is available in your area.

The reason i blame the father he was living in another county with me and his great grandmother he was doing really well in school but he was afraid we would go after him for child support so he uprooted him and mistreated him beat him like a man when he brought bad grades but would not work with teachers to get him the help he needed.Our community doesnt honor the no child left behind to the letter: in the way that they implement so many programs for the help of the children.

They do not need to honor the "no child left behind".  If the kid cannot pass the tests or does not grasp or know the material for that grade level they need to repeat the grade.  I know a boy who went through 1st grade 3 times.  Mostly he was just dang lazy.  He went through with me, my brother, and then another year.  I think they passed him to get rid of him  Or they did not want a 10 year old in 1st grade.

I do not believe all the "mental" crap that is spewed today.  When I was in school they did not have ADHD.  They had a paddle.  And if you wanted to act up in class and be disruptive you got paddled and that fixed the problem.  Now they get a pill.  You have 5 yr old kids already on pills.  And you want to know why they eat them like candy and OD when they are an adult.  But that is a complete different discussion.

I am not sure I understand about getting him the help he needs.  When I was in grade school they had special education classes which basically was referred to as classes for the dumb kids.  Or slow kids.  And the thing was the ones who were in these classes for certain subjects were not dumb.  They again, were lazy.  They did not want to do the work.  It was a way out.  I guess I just have a hard time grasping why 80% or more of the kids today cannot do basic school work and need all this extra help.

The whole world is a mess.  So your daughter is his mother?  I thought his father was your son.  If so I am really confused.  I think a lot of the problems with kids is the home life.  Idk.

If he will do the work I would do what I said and look for an online school.  It is an actual classroom setting but through the computer.  That way YOU do not have to be the teacher.  But he has to make some effort and he has to do the work.  If he refuses to do that then I would leave him in public school.  The welfare system is going to run dry eventually.  I know a kid right now who is about 10 and when asked what he wants to be when he grows up ... he says he WILL NOT WORK.  He is going to either draw a check aka welfare or marry a woman who will take care of him.  Yeah big boy good luck with that!  Point is kids need some education so they can get a job.  And today a 2 yr AS degree is about equivalent to a HS diploma years ago.

so we went back to jmhs for their curriculum at least until he is old enough to take ged i just couldnt figure out how to make a 4 subject curriculum and get him to follow it the hardest part is the online book but im just going to buy the books

I don't know about where you live but I think you have to be 18 to take it in my state.  So by then he would be old enough to just graduate.  A high school diploma is worth more than a GED when you try to get a job. Same as an associate degree is worth more than a HS diploma even if it is an entry level job such as a cashier at Lowes.

Yes countrygirl we are finding out more everyday for intance this online school is not willing to fill out papers for drivers liscense but the board of ed is.so thats one more hurtle we can finagle

Why do you need the board of education to fill out papers to get a driver license?  The school had NOTHING to do with me getting my DL.  My mom took me.  There are a ton of options for online schools even grade school as well as high school.  But you have to be willing to do the work.  And if he is wanting to go to college so he can get a decent job you need to see what kind of background they want.  I would assume if you have high enough ACT or SAT scores it would not matter the high school.

My cousin's kids do an online school.  They are home schooled but they do something on iPads.  So they have a real teacher but connect through the iPad.  I don't know a lot about it because she lives in a different state. But I have seen them doing it when they were visiting.  I also don't know how it is where you are but around here people will call the law on you and say your kid is truant. So in other words when you home school I don't know who all you have in your business all the time.

I wish this was something that I could do.  I am not strict enough to make the kids do the work on their own.  My sister-in-law home schooled her kids.  One of her kids said he didn't learn a thing.  She would leave them to do the work and left the answer book in the same room.  So if the mom wasn't doing their work they were cheating.  LOL  I did meat another lady that home schooled her kids.  I could tell she was strict enough that her kids did it on their own.  I often wondered about things like field trips and stuff like that.  She said they did all of that to.  What ever the school was doing her kids were doing. Now I don't know if they were involved in sports.

I know a few people that use the online school. I guess there is still a lot of work involved but it seems to be going good for them so far.

It depends on what "home school" you do.  If you do it through the local school maybe.  The one my cousins do is online and has nothing to do with local schools.  SO no they do not go on field trips with the local schools.  I do not see where "field trips" are a big deal any way.  There are pros and cons to it.  With safety and not having your child indoctrinated are too big ones. But depending on the parent the child is not exposed to anything but the parent views. I knew some kids a while back whose parents were physco and the kids were warped in their thinking.  Not seen them in years so I don't know how things turned out for them.

You can be involved with others without going to public school.  You can take them to church.  There are also programs for home school kids.  The more crazy this world gets the more I agree with home school if it is an option for you. But you have to be willing to put forth the effort needed.
