H1N1 shot???
« on: October 15, 2009, 08:30:13 pm »
Has anyone been able to get the H1N1 shot yet? I live in Ohio and my kids doctors keep telling me that they do not have it yet. I can not wait til my kids get vaccinated for that. Better safe than sorry.

I'm pretty sure it's just now being sent out across the country.  Those particularly susceptible (children, teenagers, pregnant women, people in their 20s) will have first access, then the less susceptible.

Nope, I for the first time in my 32 years alive decided to go get regular flu shot and the H1N1 and nothing. They told me some time in December they shoudl possibly have another supply.

My son's Dr. said she got the nasal version this week, but can only give it to health care workers until next week. So I can take him pretty soon.

I'm going to skip it as well. I have done the regular flu shot 4 times in my life and 3 of those, I got sick within days of the shot. I think for now, I'm healthier without it.

For the people "skipping it this year," perhaps you should take a look at the current numbers of reported flu cases and flu-related deaths...you picked one of the worst years in a long time to skip the vaccine.  Enjoy :)  Good luck...

What the hell, I'll just throw them out there and you can go look deeper if you're interested.  As of September/October:

Number of confirmed cases of swine flu in the US *just swine flu, not including seasonal:  44,522 (highest number of confirmed of any country in the world)

Number of cases worldwide: 364,501

Number of deaths related to flu in US:  638  (highest reported death rate of any country in the world)

Visits to doctors for influenza-like illness continued to increase in the United States, and overall, are higher than what is expected for this time of the year.  Total influenza hospitalization rates for laboratory-confirmed flu are climbing and are higher than expected for this time of year. The proportion of deaths attributed to pneumonia and influenza has increased and exceeds what is normally expected at this time of year.  Forty-one states are reporting widespread influenza activity at this time.

In other words, what you're seeing in October is numbers higher than what you would normally see in February and high points in the typical flu season.  You're seeing many more cases than normal being confirmed and more deaths as a result...and the flu season is just now on its start.

So, as I said, good luck.

Am not taking that shot!! Neither are my kids or grandkids. Talked to the doctor about it and he is not recommending it because it was rushed through, even said he and his family are not taking it.
