My Son will email me and tell me that I'm the best Mom, and that he loves me, BUT, he tells me he would never tell me these things in person  ???....is it a guy thing when one cant express their feelings?....I'm so sorry if I asked this before  :confused1:

Wow.  I don't think it is a "guy" thing.  Seems odd he says he would not tell you "in person".  I would ask in an email, reply to the one he sent to you, and just ask WHY would you say you could never tell me this in person.

I have and no answer, something I will never know I guess. I know some guys who cant express compassion/feelings, and they have told me for some guys its just a guy thing hmmmm

This is true lol. When he was little it was different, I come from a family who we always tell one another we love each other coming and going and after a phone call. He's 37 and works in law enforcement I thought maybe it as a macho thing ha ha...I know of guys who hug their Moms in public....but you are so right :)

He obviously wants you to know how much he loves you.  Some people have a hard time verbalizing things from the heart.

Amen to this post. Be grateful he tells you at all.   :angel11:

It also might depend on his age. Teenage boys tend to not want to do any public display of affection. My older son tells me all the time he loves me, but my youngest boy had a hard time doing it. However, I just keep telling him I love him all the time and he has started saying it back.

If you can be patient and wait, he might get up the courage to tell you in person. You don't sound as though it's hurting your feelings at this point and that's a good thing.

I had a hard time showing affection to my mother as well. I regret it now since she has passed.

Hi, he is 37. Every time he walks out the door I tell him I love him, it hurts not to hear it back but then once in awhile I will get that email saying I love you Mom 😊

It's definitely a guy thing but not because guys can't express their feelings but I think it's indicative of repressing their emotions as being part of the whole toxic masculinity thing.

My Son is a police officer and I ALWAYS want my last words to be "I love you" NRAJOE, every time he walks through that door I thank God he came home safe another day. I may sound weird but....maybe when he retires and if i'm still around I'll say "see you later" ...oh I must sound pathetic to you lol

My Son lost his Dad when he was 12 years old. Someone once told me that maybe he doesn't want to show his feelings towards me so that when I'm gone it wont hurt so much. He and his Dad were very close and it did a number on him when he died. Does that make sense to anyone? thank you all for commenting ...HUGS
