Question About Amazon Prime
« on: December 17, 2019, 06:04:23 pm »
I've had Amazon Prime for a year and it was well worth the cost. I noticed that Comcast/Xfinity now provides it on their service along with Netflix, Hulu, and something else. I tried to sign into Amazon but was told I have to subscribe....to what? I'm still with Comcast/Xfinity until I find my favorite other network to sign up and I'm subscribed to Amazon Prime, so what else do I have to subscribe to to get that programming?

As you can tell, I'm very nontechnical...never thought I'd get this way, but when I had my career, I was so busy, I couldn't keep up with technology. Everything changes so fast. My boys know more than I do now, and they just got computers about 5 years ago.

I guess I am just as nontechnical as you are, because I thought Amazon prime was basically for shopping and there was a different Amazon to sign up for in order to get television viewing or the like.

I have Amazon Prime and pay $5.99 a month. I try to keep it simple so I don't feel overwhelmed with all the changes.

It's all the same Amazon Prime that includes the shopping, ebook reading, video movies and tv shows, free 2 day shipping and a lot more.

Not sure what you are asking.  Comcast now provides what?  Amazon Prime?  No, it doesn't.  Are you sure you still have Prime?  Did it expire?  I done the free trial and did not find it worth paying for at all.  The movies that were free were trash.  I started several and then turned them off.  I think I watched maybe 8 movies.  I am not paying to rent a movie if I am paying for Amazon Prime.  The reading and music which was suppose to come with Prime both wanted me to pay a subscription to have those.  SO that wasn't free with Prime either.  And then the 2 day delivery - A few things came in 2 days but several did not.  And yes, they were ships from and sold by Amazon.  The first took 5 days.  The 2nd item I had an issue with said expected delivery and it was 7 days.  I called them and they had all these excuses telling me I misunderstood what 3 days meant lol But I did end up getting it in two days.  Then another item took 3 days.  SO my conclusion was there is no way this is worth $119 a year.  And I don't qualify for the welfare discount or student discount.

There are movies and tv shows that come with Prime.  Most of the movies you still pay for if you want to view them.  You rent them for apx $3.99 or more.  The reading and music you still have to pay for.  They say it is free with Prime but it isn't.  The reading the only things that were free were items that were already free.  They are free to everyone whether you have prime or not.  And it is trash nobody wants to read.  Thus why it is free.

I have had Amazon prime now for 2 years and I love the movies and the free shipping :)

I always get free shipping any way.  I just wait to place an order until I meet the threshold which keeps changing.  Right now I think it is $25.  It use to be higher I think.  The fast shipping is good if they can do it.  I think the demand has been to high for them this year.

I do the same, don't have Prime either but still manage to get free shipping by waiting to meet the minimum threshold when I order.
Also, there are plenty of work arounds.  Like Amazon offered free shipping to everyone last week, I noticed they did this last year as well around Christmas. I was able to buy a last minute Christmas gift from a private seller for $21 & got free priority shipping :)

& additionally,  just yesterday, I signed up to get pet food through their subscribe & save which gives free shipping AND the first order was 40% off as well... so yay.  And with subscribe & save, you can cxl the subscription for future orders after you get that first one. So if my pet doesn't like the food, I'll cxl the subscription & still have benefited from the free shipping perk.

I have never got free shipping from a private seller.  I ordered 3 items a while back and met the threshold for free shipping.  But 1 of the 3 items shipped from a private seller and I had to pay shipping on it.  It was for my mom and something she really wanted so I done it.

I have done the same thing, but if I add up all the free shipping I got from Prime this year and compare that to the shipping I had to pay for, it's way less than 1%. I just count my blessings and keep enjoying all the benefits.

I know right.... I was surprised when it came in a priority mail flat rate envelope instead of the usual Amazon packaging.  I had to double check & indeed it was Shipped & Sold by the seller & not Amazon.
