New Brakes on SUV

My SUV has been making a sound only when I turn left.  Since it is still under warranty I wanted it taken to the dealer to be checked.  My husband insisted it was the brakes and they are not covered under the warranty (which I know).  So we took into the dealer and sure enough it was the brakes.  They wanted $812 to replace the brake pads and install new rotaries.  Thankfully my husband is handy and loves to work on cars and it only cost us $127.00.  So glad I have husband that is handy.  He has save us so much money over the years.

The dealer prices are outrageous.  My hubby keeps our vehicles going also and it really saves a lot of money.

You are so lucky to have a family member or close friend who is knowledgeable about cars. I just had 2 rotors and all 4 brake pads replaced.  I would have to check the receipts for the exact amount but it was approximately $700!  Now, I have a son-in-law who is a very good mechanic and handyman although those are not his formal occupations.  He is very busy taking care of their home and cars as well as working his job so I really don't expect much.  However, he has never offered to do a thing for me! Snce I love my daughter and want her marriage to not suffer in any respect, i just roll with it, say nothing, and I try to act warmly toward him!

My Husband and all three of my boys are so knowledgeable about automobiles that they could be Mechanics. They can fix any kind of Vehicle. I'm so glad because I never have to worry about my Truck.

That is awesome that he is able to do that - my husband was the same both in automobiles and household stuff but alas he is now deceased.  Our two sons are pretty handy with some stuff but I have an all encompassing warranty on my car because them being able to do stuff and getting them to find the time to do it are at times two different things.

My husband used to fix our cars all the time when we used to drive old 240 Volvos. But then I went out and bought a Ford for myself and he doesn't know the first thing about Fords, so we were taking it to a dealer to be fixed. But the dealer charged an arm and a leg and we found out most fixes have YouTube instrux online anyways so now my husband is fixing the Ford by learning step by step from videos. We have been saving a bundle that way.

How in the world could they justify almost $1000 to put brake pads on a vehicle?

Justify if you cannot someone to do it for you and ensure you and your families safety when driving.  If my husband was not around I would have spent the money to save my life and the life of others

The dealer is always beyond high, I also needed brake pads front & back on my jeep; was able to be referred to a quality mechanic by one of the teachers where I substitute teach; very good and reasonable; there was no way I was going to even go near the dealer would have probably  cost me three times; I got done for less then three hundred dollars including labor cost, I will be using him again for any future work.

Yes you are lucky- car repair cost is mostly labor.

I’m so fortunate that my son can do all my mechanical work that I don’t have to deal with the shops and they’re out rages prices especially on labor

That is awesome! I am thankful for my dad though getting old is still working and helps me with my car issues because it is so expensive!
