neighbor complaining, please can I have your thoughts?

Neighbor did that to us once.  They actually called the police.  We explained that our dog barked occasionally and only during the day.  They didn't really do anything.

I'm a little late in my reply but I have an issue with a neighbor too so I thought we'd compare notes if you will. First, your neighbor is being very unreasonable! I could understand her compliant if your dog barked non stop at all hours but from what you've said, Sasha sounds like a nice playful dog who isn't doing anything that should bother anyone. My OTHER neighbor has a dog, seems nice, only barks occasionally, doesn't bother me one bit. Sounds to me like your neighbor needs an attitude adjustment. I mean, "ruining the neighborhood for everyone?" jeez chill out lady! If she does call the cops, I doubt there is anything the law can get you on. It's not disturbing the peace since Sasha isn't barking at an odd hour of the day or even for that long. If your neighbor wants to know what noise is, send her over here! Daily I put up with wailing sirens, loud car stereos, construction noise and oh yeah, my annoying neighbor who multiple times a day, everyday uses his leaf blower for hours on end!!! I have to close my windows so the house doesn't fill up with gas fumes and wear ear plugs so I don't get a migraine headache. Today after putting up with this for YEARS I finally had enough and went over to talk to this neat freak. I simply asked if he could give it a rest for just one day and he gruffly responded "get off my property". I said facetiously, "nice talking to you, thanks for being so considerate" and I left. I called the police, explained the situation and asked if there was anything that could be done. The sympathetic officer put me on hold to ask her superiors and returned to tell me that unless the whole neighborhood complains, there isn't anything to stop this annoyingly tidy individual. Looks like we're stuck dealing with undesirables. Good luck with yours!

oh wow and this is exactly why i live in the country! i feel for ya dogs bark its what they do they bark they are dogs. that lady is soooo far off from reality!!! you are probably right she will eventually call the cops on you but depending on what the law is where you live u may or may not have some issues. good luck i have a feeling this will be an on going problem for ya.....but i thought u handle yourself really well!!

Not really.  Dogs are not made to just sit and bark all day.  I realize that is not the case in this situation.  But to say oh dogs bark get over it is insane.  My neighbor has 11 and they use to bark ALL the time.  ALL DAY and ALL NIGHT.  Kind of makes sleeping a little difficult with 11 dogs barking.  Some people have jobs and have to get up and go to work.

Read the orig post.  She was yelling for a DOG to stop barking not a CHILD to stop screaming.  And I can see where kids screaming all the time would get aggravating.  And contrary to what some people want to believe DOGS are not your CHILDREN.

My neighbor is someone I do not like. She came down here and told me to watch my cat because it was in her yard. She has also raised cain over other stupid stuff also. One time she got mad because my husband mowed a small area on the property line that she said was hers.

At 4pm there is more noise going on than a dog barking. As long as you are not disturbing the peace, I don't think there's anything she can do legally. Hope things get better and she won't waste the cops time over a bark.

I doubt very seriously she would call the cops. (rolling eyes here)  People can get annoyed with neighbors and most never call the police.  Like I said, my neighbor has 11 and they bark all the time.  I would never think about calling the police.  As for nothing she can do legally, actually there is.  IF a dog barks constantly and never stops you probably could do something about it.  I realize that is not the case here.  But some people just want to fight.

Sorry to disappoint you.If you had common sense you would see she is far from being a supporter of Hitch.But i am not surprised she caught on fast enuff to wanna ignore you....LOL!

Need to vent AGAIN. Bob was out in the yard at 4:00 pm today playing ball with Sasha. Sasha started barking and the neighbor yelled over "STOP" I went out to see what she was barking at and that is when Bob told me that the neighbor just yelled "STOP". Well that REALLY got my blood boiling so I told Bob lets play ball with Sasha and get her barking again grrrrrr. Low and behold who comes walking up the driveway AGAIN. She asked us " did you ever think of sending her to training school?" I said, and for what may I ask, she said "to stop barking" she went on to say that we should reward her to not bark. (how does one do that?) I asked her if she ever had an issue with a dog before? well if looks could kill i'd be dead. She told us that when she was 12 she had a dog that tore up everything and wouldn't listen to anyone. I asked her what she did in that case and she told us that she had to lock the dog in the bathroom all day. I wanted to say, did you ever think of taking the dog to training school? haha..She mentioned that she likes the neighborhood because it's a quiet neighborhood but now that we have Sasha we ruined the neighborhood for everyone. I know that she is going to call the cops one day, I dont know what to do Sasha barks outside maybe 5 minutes tops when we are playing with her after her doing her business outside. I am still shaking here after talking with her UGH.

As your neighbor said, take the Dog in for training.   I know how your neighbor feel.  Every time I go outside their damn dog starts  barking.  It's a nuisance.

Unless it is my neighbor's dog.  Then there may be a squirrel in the yard. lol.  I talked to him one morning and told him he was gonna have to have a talk with his dogs.  I got out of car and started to door (in the dark) and they start barking like mad.  I told him I had to try to get in the house before something got me. lol  He said yeah they bark at squirrels and everything else.  But truth be known they were probably barking because they saw me.  They bark a lot but I don't really even notice any more.

I disagree. Barking is a way of communication. If a dog is barking incessantly outside, that means it is trying to tell you something, like "I need some exercise" or "my owner is neglecting me" or "there is an intruder" or "the house is on fire" etc.

Barking and growling can also be warning signs that the dog is fearful or uncomfortable and is going to bite if you don't back off. If a dog is repeatedly told not to bark or growl, then he stops warning you and now you just get a sudden and unexpected bite instead.

I would just ignore the neighbor's complaint, all dogs barks! it is only a complaint if the dog is barking all night long or on the neighbor's property I am sure if the neighbor calls the police, they will say the same thing. Hope you can explain this to neighbor; if not let the dog do what dogs do!!

Everybody is not a dog lover.  As for the dog only barking for 5 minutes is unbelievable.  Barking dogs are a nuisance.  I can't even go out my back door because of their damn barking dog.
