Old Books and media

Everything is digital these days.  I have old cassette tapes, LOTS of old books, old encyclopedias and they take up a LOT of room in the house.  I hate throwing old books away but I don't know what else to do with them.  I don't know if libraries even want any of that stuff anymore.  I also have lots of old video tapes.   I have a tape player but not sure if it still works so I'm think I should throw those away too.  I just hate getting rid of all the old disney tapes, although, I don't watch them anymore.

I'm like you, can't bring myself to throw books away so I donated them to the library.

Yes, I've also got a stash of old books. Most of them are paperbacks. Online book buyers like Book Scouter are really only interested in textbooks and major best-sellers (unless they already have too many of them) so it's very difficult to unload them there. My town does, though, have a used bookstore that buys and sells books by the pounds, so I'll probably take them there someday. I'm like you; I can't bear the thought of actually throwing books in the trash.

I am the same way if I have old books around I will take them to my local library and donate them they really appreciate that.

I have lots of books here that I can not bring myself to toss, I do like my Kindle also.

I am the same. I recently found a few old home videos. I had my husband go out and buy an old VHS player so I could see what was on it. I am glad he did. It was a home video of me being born and the other was christmas at my grandparents. It felt so good to see their faces and hear their voices.

i have dropped off all my books to the library..and some i wished i had kept...but i do like the digital...we have lots of dvds of granddaughters growing up...granddaughters like to watch them when they come over...wish i could have them all put on computer...but that would take awhile

Was able to sell some of this stuff at garage sale this year.  What I did not sell I donated some books to the library that they were willing to accept and the rest I took over to our township hall which they gladly accepted along with some old VHS tapes.

You can try to sell them either online or to a used book store. Or you can donate them to the library, school, Salvation Army. Someone will always want what you have.

The tapes, you can have copied onto CDs so you can still enjoy them.  The books - I'm with you.  It's difficult giving them up.  I just told my husband the other day, I grew up with bookcases full of books and now we don't have room for any

Have a ton of books also. its about the only thing my husband shops for on amazon . so house full of books hard to talk my husband to give any away. Even though the biography of eva gardner  a paper back has been here for years read a little but still he wont just give it away.

So for cassette tapes you can buy an cassette to Dvd player/burner which transfer all the stuff onto a DVD as for books just donate them about 80% of the time you can find a digital copy of it but if you can't live without them there's always a storage unit near by where you can just dump it in for $$ a month/year ?

Our library usually has book sales where they sell donated books for a Walmart bag full for $1.  We do still have a set of Encyclopedias we bought when I was a kid.  They are on book shelves.

I do have cassette tapes and had not thought much about them since my car still has a cassette player and I have one in the house.  As far as VHS tapes the new TVs won't even play those and good luck finding a VCR player.  I wish there was a way to convert them to a DVD.  Since I paid for the VHS movie I don't see anything wrong with converting it to a DVD but if you purchase one of the converters it will not convert one that is copyright. You can only do your own personal movies you have made.

I have thought about it and I will likely sometime in the near future throw away the VHS tapes I have.  Unless I can figure out a way to change them to a DVD first they will just be gone.  There is no sense in them laying around when there is no way to even watch them.  I hate to get rid of the Disney ones.

I got rid of a lot of books to a used book dealer The senior center in my area takes books also

We have a used book store.  I had around 100 or more really good books.  I took them and she wanted to give me less than $20 for all of them.  Then said oh well I am just trying to help you out.  Sorry lady, I need the money but I am not that desperate.  She would have sold each book for $5 or more.  The only person she was trying to help was herself.

There are some people in my town who try to do yard sales like a job.  They have a yard sale in their front yard every day all the time.  Not sure how they get away with it, because it is against the law, but it is what it is. Hardly every will anybody even stop.  They have had the same junk for years.  And they leave the clothes hanging out in the rain or whatever.  But back to your comment a lot of people who do that are just wanting it because they are going to try to sell it in a yard sale or online.

A few years ago we gave a bunch of really nice clothes to a girl who supposedly needed them.  Then found out she just wanted them so she could sell them online.  smh  Stuff like that makes me more likely to just throw it in the trash than give it to someone.
