What do you do for exercise?
« on: August 23, 2019, 11:07:18 am »
I understand the gym works best for some people, but I've never had much patience for that kind of exercising. Just repeating some motion over and over with no context is mind numbing for me... personally I'm way more motivated if I'm doing some actual activity or accomplishing something.

Yard work is my go-to. In fact I just noticed I've gotten better muscle tone than I've ever tried to build on purpose, as a totally accidental side effect from some intensive outdoor projects this summer.

How do you get your exercise?

I do an energy medicine routine every morning, then later in the day walk a couple of miles outside or use a walking in home video. I would never get to a gym to exercise.  I like my routine, and it works for me, but I should do even more!

I walk my dog for one mile in the morning and one mile in the evening. I walk shelter dogs for two hours on Saturdays. I walk up and down three flights of stairs at work (and one flight of stairs several times a day at home)per day to get to my office. I park as far from the entrance to anything I need to get to so that I get more walking in.  I bike for thirty minutes every day on a recumbent lifecycle (and an hour on Saturdays and Sundays). I try to hit the weights two to three times per month (about all I have time for). I schedule twenty five percent of my meetings walking with attendees outside. When I did not have to work so much I would work out for two hours every morning and do forty five to sixty minutes of cardiovascular workout every night.

I like to do push-ups, Roman-chair sit-ups, and walk a mile.

I walk at the State Park with my brother in spring, summer, and fall. Also gardening and yard work helps. In the winter I go to the gym and use the elliptical and do some weight machines.

A gym membership would be a waste of money.  I love gardening and then I run through my house to get my 10000 steps

I played Softball , oldest on team, and bowling, youngest on team.  I also participated in my county's senior games and won 14 medals in my age group, 55-59. :highfive: 8)

I wake up every morning at 4:30 or 5:00. Early hours are the best time/temperature to walk outdoors!  Depending on the day, I do 30 - 90 minutes of walking (which is also an excellent time to pop in the earbuds and listen to a few podcasts); I have a weight bench in the basement and do a 45-60 minute workout three times a week in the 5:00 hour. I walk my daughter to school and then I walk to work if I don't have any appointments requiring a shirt and tie or a drive away from the office.

I bought a FitBit a few months ago to keep better track of my daily walking goals.

Going back to late April (just after Earth Day, but not particularly motivated by Earth Day - just coincidence) I started carrying a few plastic bags with me while I walk. There are hundreds upon hundreds of discarded aluminum cans littered around my city. So I've been gathering those up on my extended walks and often end up with one or two full grocery bags upon my return home. I smash those down with a sledge hammer (more exercise) and fill up larger garbage bags in my garage to take over to the recycling center for a few extra dollars.

Walking mostly and doing some light weights.

I have a gym membership but it's kind of a long drive over there so it is only occasionally. When I go there I use the weight machines.

Water aerobics 4-5 days a week.  It feels great.  Good for the heart and my back.  :)
