ever taken care of wild baby birds /eggs?
« on: July 27, 2019, 11:17:25 am »
I have helped a few stunned or dehydrated fledglings over the years, but this week I found the tiniest egg I've ever seen, 1cm long. I assumed it was probably no good but when I shine a flashlight under it I see somebody moving in there! I doubt I could take good enough care of a hatchling so I'm going to have to find a wildlife rehab if it gets that far.

Have you ever taken care of a baby bird or egg that you found?

Many years ago we had pheasant in the field behind our house.  One pheasant had a nest.  One day I went out in the field and found that she had been killed by something.  I took her 2 eggs (nest and all) and both of them hatched.   Where as I had a cat and I figured to little birds would be too much of a temptation,  I called the Fish and Game and they came and got them (I don't know if they still do that)

I tried to save a wounded purple marten once.  It didn't work out.

I have never taken care of a wild one, but when I was younger, I did have a pet bird! He was a Quaker, so he could talk. He passed away quite a few years ago now, unfortunately. I'd love to have another one, especially an African Grey or Timnah.

Last year a sparrow fell out of the nest in the tree and my dogs found it, I brought it in, never doing this before.  I took cat food and soaked it with water, made it into a mush and fed the little bird till he was big enough to fly on his own. Hopefully NEVER have to do that again, I wonder now and again if he has stopped by the house or if he made it. I feed birds in the yard with feeders, and suit cakes

No I haven't but saw an egg hatch outside my window.  I watched the parents tend to it and one day I found it outside on the ground.  I guess another bird got to it.

      I believe in animal rights!
I have bottle fed some baby animals,
wrap a puppy in a blanket at home during wintertime
to keep the poor animal warm, given a free ride to a
      stranded animal and much more.
Live and let live...help others to survive.
