Ugh I don't want to go to work
« on: July 01, 2019, 08:33:14 am »
I wish I didn't have to work today.  I'm not one to call out unless I'm really sick which is very rare.  We have sick days but we still get penalized for it and they are cracking down more because we're short because people are calling out.  I have a friend that's unemployed now but if I even mention I don't want to go to work today she will say "well at least you have a job" which is completely true but still you have some days where you just don't want to do and this is one if them.

I second your opinion, OP. Mondays are naturally the day where I have the 'I do not want to work today' phase. Your friend does have a point, however. Given the state of our economy, it is very difficult to find/secure employment.

The last time I took a couple days off for being sick was in 2014 when I had the flu. I usually take one day off for the flu and fight the rest of the week getting better but my spouse was working too so I can afford to take an extra day off.

What your friend said is exactly what I was going to say....  'At least you have a job'.  Depending on where you live jobs are not easy to get.  And with the influx of people in our country it seems it is getting harder to find a job.  Esp one with a decent pay wage.

If you have x amount of sick days I do not see how they can penalize you for using them.  You can use your "sick day" for whatever.  Doesn't matter if you are sick.

I can also understand places cracking down on abuse of calling in.  A couple years ago a local factory had to shut down 2 lines because so many people were calling in.  They thought they were being cute and they could win.  Well now one of the lines has been permanently shut down and a lot of people have all the free days they want. lol.

People don't want jobs.  They want a check.

Everybody has days they don't want to go to work.  That is normal I guess.

I do not see what the deal with Monday is.  I have always heard that.  Monday is no worse than any other day.  Unless people are just lazy from being off the previous 2 days (if your job allows that).  You are right about finding a job.  But secure employment is a joke.  No employment is secure.  I know a lady who got a job that she thought was a pretty decent job.  They just called her one day and said "don't come back".  She didn't do anything wrong.  Happens a lot.  Companies are in it to make money.  They need to cut costs they easiest way is to cut extra employees.  And if you live in an at-will work state it is super easy to get rid of people.

The flu lasts longer than one day.  I don't get these people who say they have the flu but then go to work every day.  I have seen people with the flu and they were not able to get out of bed.

Having said that, there was a place here locally last winter where supposedly everybody was getting the flu.  And maybe if the ones who were sick had actually stayed home they wouldn't have made everybody else sick.
Whatever they had they kept passing around back and forth and everybody there was sick for about 4 months.  The facility closed for the winter at the end of the year.

Not long after one of the ones that was sick for several weeks ended up in the hospital.  They said it started with the flu and things kept getting worse and she ended up dying.  Still not sure if there wasn't more going on.

It's ok to feel that way because sometime you may not feel like getting out of bed but taking that first step always help. Give yourself some motivation to get moving and I hope your day ends better than it started.

Mondays are days I would like to have off too. I know what you mean about not wanting to go to work.

I had to work today and I definitely didn't want to go but I would never call in sick if I wasn't just to have the day off.

I worked today on the 4th of July.  The only real down fall was that it was too chilly inside with the air conditioning.  I longed to sit outside and soak up some of the summer heat.  I have rarely put shorts on so far this summer.....

I know what you mean, there are days I don’t feel like going in to work.  I think that happens to most of us at one time.

I am totally on board with your sentiment and find it even more true the day after July fourth. At least I am able to work from home. I think that today should have been a mandatory day off just like the day after Thanks giving should be a day off for everyone. How productive will people be today? At least I have a ton of things to get done so the day will pass fairly quickly. Now we do not get another national Holiday until September. I may take next Wednesday off, from my day time job, just so I can crush some hours at my other two jobs. One less thing to worry about. Seven hours and fifty minutes to go. I think I will be calculating how long till work is done for the rest of the day. I hope that everyone had a good fourth of July and doesn't have to work today. Thanks for the post!

It depends on the company you work for.
Where I work, if someone does not show up,
for whatever reason, there is always someone
already trained to takeover just for that day.

Very few places will there be only ONE person who can do the job and the whole place shuts down if that one person is out and cannot do their job for that day.  The point is when people lay out (depending on the situation) it can really put a strain on everyone else.  Who ever is filling in for x that called in will not be able to do their job.

Then if a bunch of people call in the same day, which seems to happen, it really messes things up.
