I have coverage through my work. It was way too expensive to get coverage for my daughter through my employer so I had to go to the exchange ( http://connectforhealthco.com/ ) to get hers. For a health teen I pay over $200 a month in premiums and the deductible is crazy high. Insurance is a joke...

Contact you local government or county office; they should be able to guide you  in the right direction; good luck.

     I have health insurance.
The real problem is: Some insurance companies deny your claim.
You just have to take them to Court-Sue them!

That is stupid.  They should not be able to deny a claim.  If you need medical care they should pay for it.  Unless it is elective.  You want a tummy tuck then you need to stop stuffing your face. But things that are needed they should not deny esp if you pay the premiums. That is another reason some people just say no way to paying ridiculously high premiums and all their own medical care because of deductibles higher than a lot of people spend at a doctor in a life time.

Thankfully, I have health insurance. But I had a feeling that the Affordable Care Act did more harm than good. It is heart-wrenching that even after the passage of the ACA, people are struggling to afford health insurance. Unsure when the United States will get on the same bandwagon as Canada and go down the universal health insurance avenue.

You can go to the welfare office and hospitals who will help you out getting insured.  They set you up for vision, dental and other health care insurance.  They even help you set up everything to be covered.  It's out there, you have to do some research.

My mother had no health insurance and had to go a free clinic for a while for her health care. I was worried about her because she needed a surgery desperately to get well. The only thing we were able to find was the Affordable Care Act health care in our state. She became signed up and thankfully got her much needed surgery in March and is recovering. It's not the best you can get but for her situation is helpful enough for her current needs.

Praying they never do.  People need to get a clue and understand that the healthcare is NOT free.  And the healthcare is not worth anything.  People die waiting for a bed.  If people are so in love with Canada's set up they need to move there.  It's funny because people who have health problems try to get to the United States because we have better health care than any other country.

I am curious where all these free clinics are.  I have never heard of that.  Certainly do not have anything like that any where close to me.

At least your mom could get the free insurance.  Most people can't get it.  I tried to get it because I can't afford insurance and I was told I did not qualify.  Here look at this.  It is affordable. NO, it was more than my income.  Not sure how I am suppose to afford that.  But hey, at least the baby machines all have insurance.

I have health insurance but we have clinics in our area.  I volunteer at a homeless shelter and they have access to plenty of places that can help people.

Is there anyone who doesn't have health insurance? If you do, how did you get it? while not working?

If you're laid off, CObRA through the state. Also, your state should have a health insurance office where you can apply for approved insurance plans. I was laid off 2010; got unemployment and checked into COBRA and state plans. I decided since I only had a year to go for Medicare I could wait. Ha! At 9 months was when I wound up with my knee sarcoma and 5 years later still fighting with the hospital over the bill. They wanted $1200 a month to pay the bill. My Social Security was %600. They said I didn't qualify for Medicaid. Why? That was my argument. Here they thought my husband had guaranteed payment. Nope. He never signed any papers. Only me. So, I got an attorney and he solved it with one 3 paragraph letter. So far (4 year later), they haven't bothered me but the stress was awful.

It is very expense if you have to pay it without a employer paying  part of it.
