Kittens

 A mom cat 4 years ago had kittens here. She ran off when they were old enough to survive on their own. We took care of them. She came back pregnant again and again, took off. I was able to find homes for a couple of them. I was supposed to get vouchers from a feral cat lady to get 6 feral cats fixed from the last litter.. She came to the house and explained what would be done. After I gave her my mailing address to get the vouchers mailed, I never heard from her again and she won't answer my messages. In the meantime, the 2 females got pregnant probably from the nasty feral that's been fighting with the two males.  My 2 adult males ran off after the feral attacked them. It was unusual because they never strayed far from our porch, especially my black and white beauty. Boots was the scaredy cat.  Tigger was the laid back one. I think they are dead and I'm sad about that.

Down to 3 now. One male and 2 females.  The other night there was a commotion outside and the cats were gone in a second. I have a problem with raccoons  (2 of them) at night along with 3 'possums who think I'm there to feed them, too. Cats aren't bothered by the 'possums but run from the raccoons.  I take the food in at night but they still come. The one female had 5 kittens. I'm trying to socialize them and I can pick them up, talk to them and pet them. They seem to like it except the runt. It's pure black and so skinny.  It's also very scared of everything. Two are multi-colored, 2 gray, and the little black runt. Anyway, I don't know who to contact. Everyone I contacted last time  didn't have room or couldn't bother.  Now the lone male is mad because the kittens have taken up residence on the porch. I haven't seen him yet today. He usually stuck around all day and he was my favorite.  So now I'm waiting for the other female to drop her bundles of joy. I hope there aren't a bunch.

I can't afford them all and don't know what to do. I still can't afford the spaying and neutering fees but I can't not feed them. SPCA around here euthanizes kittens right away. Hubby's getting very upset, too. Any suggestions?

Ask some vets in your area. Explain these are feral cats,  that you do what you can to feed them, but you cant afford to fix them, and that they just keep multiplying, making more unwanted kitties . I do believe all states have a low cost spay and neuter clinic, which is VERY cheap compared to what they normally charge.

Is there a pet adoption @ Petco or Petsmart? If so talk to them about your cat situation. They will help adopting them out & fostering the kittens!

I don't know about where you live but in some areas if you contact your local animal shelter and explain the situation they will come and trap them and spay/neuter them and then bring them back and release them if you tell them you will feed them.  My aunt done that.  She had about 15.  The were all wild and could not be touched. But she had to covered porches and has beds and safe places for the cats to get.  She feeds them and they lay on the porch even when people are out there but just do not want to be social like a regular cat.  Well as social as a regular cat is. lol

But they paid for the surgery completely.  It would be worth checking in to.  Just tell them, if you are willing, that you can't deal with all the new kittens and if they will trap them and fix them they can bring them back and release them there and you will make sure they have food.  Not sure if they will require rabies shots.  I don't think they did with the ones at my aunt's house.

You cannot adopt out feral cats.  Some pet stores will also take them and sell them for about $15.  I got one that way.  But if the cat is wild places like Petco or Petsmart (assuming the sell pets, I did not know they did) are not going to take a cat that is wild.  It is bad because nobody wants them.  Nobody wants a cat they can't pet.

We have the feral cat problem around here too in Florida.  It's everywhere.  People don;t get them fixed and so they multiply.  Then the people move out leaving it up to the neighbors to take care of.  I went through a T and R program here in Orlando, where they trapped 5 of them, fixed them and brought them back to me.

Also, I adopted one of the kittens and she's grown now.  It cost $10 to adopt and they gave her her shots for free.  I also let one I call Tiger stay in the porch because the other cats bully him.

We took in a feral kitten from a man who was trying to help control the population. He would neuter and/or spay them and then took to adopting them out, if possible. It took a while, but this cat is quite loving and protective. It you can get them as kittens, I think you've got a good chance to have a really good cat.

As for the problem you have now, I think you may just have to let them fend for themselves which includes allowing them to find a source of food and to ward off predators. You can't take care of the whole world by yourself. But God bless you for trying.

lol.  I would take them all in if I could.  If you get as a little kitten.  We had a problem a couple years ago with a neighbor who had over 40 full grown cats and AC came and trapped at least half of them. Most of them were wild.  I don't know what happened. But as an adult you aren't going to tame a wild cat.  You might.  You may get someone who has a farm and wants barn cats.  I know a guy who use to do that.  He fed them but some of them you could not pet.

Anyway there is still a problem with too many cats and now a new neighbor has 9 dogs.  And there are other neighbors who have way too many or they just have one but let it run free.  IT is out of control.

If you start as a kitten then you have a chance.  My neighbor a couple years ago had over 40 and most were wild.  She refused to have any of them fixed.  They kept multiplying.  AC came and got about 20 of them.  I don't know what happened because these were adult cats that were wild.  I figure most were put down.  Sounds sad but it is the stupid woman's fault.  She knew there was a problem and still refuses to stop.

Now we have a problem with dogs.  I have a new neighbor who has 9 and people are fed up with them.  And other neighbors on the street have dogs they let run free as well as cats. So it is just a mess.

I keep my animals at home.  They stay inside my house.  Before my dog died he was either in my house or in a pen or chained up in the yard.  But there is no way to win because people drive by and see him chained in the yard and want to start a fight.

It is around $100 to adopt a cat here and I think $150 to adopt a dog.  And they wonder why nobody will adopt them.

I want to think the adoption fee covers some of the shots but if you adopt a kitten that is 6 weeks old that is too young to get rabies shots.  Not sure how it works.

And NOW there is yet ANOTHER dog I have never seen before roaming the neighborhood. smh

Sorry for both you and kittens really not a good feeling when you cannot feed the babies. I wish you more money to feed them

i can understand that...my son in law just left my daughter of 19 years (he was cheating)..he left her with everything to take are of...they have a pig which she just found a new home for...still have 2 big dogs outside,2 cats inside and 2 small dogs in the house...she is not gonna be able to afford them..it was him wanting all of them and then doesnt have anything to do with them...

I am sure she could surrender them to a local shelter.  OR if she has Facebook advertise on there.

we adopted 2 cats in our neighborhood was so glad they were fixed. I knew because when spring came no pregnancies.

I hope you can find help to get them fixed. We have a low cost care center here and get discount programs for our pets.
