I think in my case what you are referring to is Google voice for us. I got my first google voice account years ago because we couldn't afford long distance calling and google voice worked great for our needs when calling out of our area code. I just signed up for a google account and connected my home phone number to the account and bam got free calls and texts. It was also great to make the occasional text or sign up for services that required a mobile number since at the time we didn't have a mobile phone.

I am not referring to anything specific.  Google Voice is not what I had before.  GV you need a real phone number because the texts are forwarded to your real phone.  I want something that I can log in and check it like email and see the text that was sent.  SO if a verification code is sent then I can check the thing online and use it and go on and they do not have a real phone number.

More and more places are selling our info.  Kind of like the surveys if you give personal info it is sold.  Don't be fooled.
