Both genders have their pros and cons. Personally, I would prefer a (neutered) male dog. I've heard that female dogs have a "time of the month" (similar to human females). I do not want to have to deal with the mess.

Have always had males but the last one my daughter brought home was a female but she was spaded so I never had to deal with the monthly mess.  Here in our state now when you adopt it dog has be to either neutered or spaded before you take possesion.  I really do not see any difference in their personality as both are loving and good dogs.

My daughter has a female (fixed) dog who is absolutely delightful to be around. She lets kids pull her tail without complaining and she loves to be petted by absolutely anyone.

I've never met a dog I didn't like...male or female.  Sadly, I'm allergic to animal hair so I'll never have one for a pet.

I don't think there's much of a difference between male and female dogs. Every dog has its own personality, just like people. I think breed type has more impact on behavior and personality than sex. Also a dog's personality often mimics its owner's personality. An uptight nervous human usually has an uptight nervous dog. That's why my dogs have always been so chill.  8)

That's why you get females spayed. It also prevents pyometra, which is life threatening.

I have no preference. Every dog I had was a good companion.

I have one female and 2 male dogs. We have more issues with the males peeing on things which drives me crazy.

We've always had neutered male dogs.
Have a wonderful day!

I prefer male dogs. They've all done the leg hiking even when we had them fixed as puppies. It might have just been the personality of the one female dog we happened to have, but she seemed more skittish and possessive in a bad way.

I don't have dogs, but we have two cats.  One male and one female.  The female is loving and will let other people pet her, but the male is aggressive and doesn't like other people.

I have a female mix shitzu and she is very good and protective, I even think she is a racist (LOL) she does not like people of color in the house, but she absolutely hates MEN.  it is funny how she reacts to them, and color male!  OMG something to see.  My daughter just adopted a male Mix Coli and he is the sweetest dog I have ever seen, but I guess it depends on the kind of dog and how you treat them.  There are dogs that behave bad no matter what and others that are the sweetest thing ever.

I don't know - but I would make sure it  had been spayed or neutered.  I think that's more important
