What's going in your Spring 2019 garden?
« on: March 18, 2019, 11:02:58 am »
Whether you're ready to plant or still buried under snow and strictly in the planning phase... what will you be growing this spring? Do you buy new seeds or try to save your own for reuse?

I have started some basil and zucchini using seeds I saved from last fall. I'd love to grow so many more things if I had the space.

Here in middle Tennessee, we've learned that there will be a very small window of opportunity between rains in February, when you can run out to the garden and plant some cold weather crops.  We took advantage of our one chance so far this year, and now have Swiss chard, lettuce, pak choi, radishes, and mustard greens growing nicely. With all the rain we've had, I didn't know if the planting would be successful, but it appears to have worked! Later we'll plant tomatoes, beans, squash, peppers, eggplant, and probably a few other random choices, just for fun.

Nothing, but I would be glad to grow or plant a fruit tree!

Weather is still too unsettled here. Most gardens are planted until around May 15th.. I  don't know if i am going to plant anything now . I will be helping my sister-in-law out at the  farmers market. and i get all of the fresh veggies i want. But am thinking about putting in a couple of  fruit trees.  Don't know  yet.

I would love to plant a spring garden, but I don't think I am going to have time to do it this year. I have a lot of other work to do around my house. Hopefully next year.

Hopefully I will be planting tomatoes (several varieties), zucchini, yellow squash, cucumbers and various herbs.  Really not sure if it will happen because I've had some serious health issues so not sure if my garden will happen.

I never could figure out what exactly to do with swiss chard.

I want to plant some stuff but not til it gets warmer.  I am not interested in having to cover stuff up.

I have 4 types of heirloom tomatoes, 4 types of peppers, mild and hot.  The seeds are germinating in the indoor greenhouse as we speak.  I will also plant radishes, cucumbers, carrots, beets, and green beans. We have a large asparagus bed too. I save some seeds from the heirloom vegetables. Then we usually do potatoes and squash, sometimes watermelon or honeydew.

Potato plants are fun to grow but felt I probably spent more to grow them than potatoes cost at the store, lol. Do you grow a whole lot of them to make it worthwhile?

I always have tomatoes, several different types, but I'm hoping to grow some peppers and squash and maybe some melons.

I save seeds to use the next year.

I'm not planting this year. We don't have much luck with our gardens. It always seem to cost more than we get out of it. Cheaper to buy organic in the store.
