Yes!  I always leave some butter out on the counter to stay soft.  My sister in law's husband got on her case for leaving butter out for just a few hours.  I always have butter out on the counter in a bowl with a cover.

I have always left butter out to stay soft, usually in a tupperware container.  It turns out that keeping butter in the fridge is a matter of preference, not of food safety.

There are some caveats, but, according to some experts, salted butter in an airtight container, like a crock, is perfectly fine to leave out on the counter for up to two weeks. That's right: two weeks that you can enjoy perfectly spreadable butter for your crumpets and muffins and toast and what have you, without worrying about the dread block of chilled butter interrupting your spreading game.

Depends on what we are cooking in the next few day.  IF several things need butter I will leave it out.

No but I hate when I leave the butter out on a hot stove and didn't attend to.

I use butter to infrequently too,  but I would if I used it more.  I leave a half a stick of unsalted butter out for the cats as a hairball preventative/treatment.
