Tax refund less, more or about the same?
« on: February 11, 2019, 09:42:42 pm »
More people including me have seen their refunds lower this year.  I filed my taxes last week and I'm getting less back this year.  I never get a huge refund but the past few years has been around the same and this year was the lowest in the last few years.  What about you?

Haven't filed yet but was taking out extra on both my husband's and mine checks.  Figured something was going to backfire.  Well see next week when we go the CPA that does ours.

I thought that big tax reform that the current administration did would only benefit the rich upper class instead of the lower working people.
Have a wonderful day!

I always get back, last year we managed to get $2500 between both of them, this year I own the IRS $500 and state will give me back $25, it is absolutely ridiculous.  I knew that is was going to be less, the NEW TAX REFORM, was for benefiting the RICH and FAMOUS, not me the "Middle class".  But to own it is completely awful.  I have never in my life have had to pay anything to the government.  My very first tax filing it broke even, but the own!!  I own a house, pay Property taxes plus interest plus Mortgage Insurance, but that is all gone now.

IT IS AWFUL

I have not filed this year either. We never get much back anyway. I hope that we at least get the same back as last year.

You also got more money thru out the year.  You need to change your with holding assuming you have a job.  If you draw a government check then I do not know how that works.  Mine was different but I know why.  It isn't because I was scammed or because of a tax increase.  There was NO tax increase.

I have not gotten a tax refund since Ronald Reagan was the president. I set my deductions so that no excess money sits idle in the hands of the government. I did not have to do anything special with my deductions other than up the amount going into my 401k's. The extra amount going to my retirement accounts was equivalent to the bump on our pay checks resulting from the tax over haul which is due to go away and will end up costing our children as it did not meet it's intended goal. I figure that everything in my 401K/retirement accounts will accumulate tax free with minor government required withdrawals required when I hit age seventy and will be passed on to my children. I do not have an escrow account set up with my mortgage company for the same reason. Why let a wealthy bank earn more money on a stagnant escrow account when I can throw the cash into a money market account, make a little interest and pay the taxes and insurance myself.

You are wrong.  I am not rich at all and the tax cuts helped me.  My paycheck went up right after the tax cuts went in to place.  And you (if you have worked) have paid money to the government. It is taken out of your check every time you get a pay check. YOU owe a certain percentage of the money you earn. *I do not agree with taking part of my money I earn to give to lazy dead beats but that is how it works. And for the stupid that is not a Trump policy!  Anyway!  If you do not pay in the amount you are suppose to on the money you earn then you will pay it at the end of the year.  If you pay in more than you personally owe you will get money back.

It amazes me at how clueless people are and how many people do not have a clue at how this works.

You also need to learn how to fill out the with holding paper.  All you have to answer is how many dependents you are claiming.  For example if you are single you can claim 0 and then claim yourself at the end of the year and you will get a bigger refund.  OR you can claim 1 and then claim 1 at the end of the year and you will come closer to breaking even but you get a smaller refund.  You cannot answer the questions on the form because if you do then add those numbers up you will end up with like 7-9 dependents.

And this stuff IS taught in high school.  Use to employers would offer some help but I guess now they are afraid to because of the sue happy world we live in.  Well they told me to do this.  SMH

I did end up paying.  And I fully know why.  I was not cheated or ripped off.  I knew last fall I would probably end up having to pay.  People just want something to bellyache about.
