Feral Cats

I think it is just wonderful of you to be so good to those cats even though it is a financial strain for you. I truly hope you find help with those cats.

Now up to 6 of them and not getting any help at all from the rescue sites. I won't take them to the shelters because they'll be euthanized immediately. I've socialized the 2 adult males, 1 adult female, and one ? kitten. The kitten is so loving as are the males. The mom to the kittens and the other kitten are "miss Priss" and don't want anything to do with us. Alley Cat Allies gave me a bunch of emails and the local ones aren't valid. That's really nice of them so I emailed them and told them about it!

I've been trying since last spring to find a place for them or at least get some kind of information/help with them. We're on SS and after expenses, are left with $800 a month without groceries, gas, and it just doesn't stretch. No Nonsense Neutering charges $15 a female cat but  I forget what it is for male. Anyway, can't squeeze that money out of the budget. The kitty in my Avatar is one I had done two years ago and she got sick and died two weeks later.  She became our indoor house buddy.        

I tried looking for a farm for them with no luck either. Any other suggestions? I'm afraid "Valentine's Day" for cats is coming up and don't need any more kids. There is another feral hanging around and 3 possums that I have to fight to keep the food away from them.

After expenses you have $800 left and you say that doesn't stretch?  How can gas and groceries cost you over $800 a month?

Anyway, hard to say because it is going to have to be someone in your area.  Look online for no kill rescue organizations. Put your state in the search.  You may find some that will take them but they are not going to come get them.  And if they are wild that is another strike against them.  Maybe find who is responsible for not having them spayed or neutered and letting them run at large.

We have other expenses besides groceries and gas since we own a home, have to save so much each month towards the outrageous property taxes, upkeep, any car repairs, emergencies, life, health, home and car insurances, etc.  But why am I telling you. You think $800 is a lot of money. Try living on it with all the expenses.

I did look on line for other places and those out of county won't take them. We only have 2 shelters in this county and one is a total euthanizing shelter for any animals they think won't ever be adopted and/or ferals and stray dogs. The other one is full. They have over 230 cats.  I wouldn't mind TNR but since I haven't gotten an answer from anyone affiliated with them, I'm sort of stuck.

I follow this guy on Twitter that had a feral cat come & gave birth to 4 kittens under his bed... he left his back door open... and then decided to keep them all after not have anyone claim the mother.  He posts pictures & writes narratives of his story on Twitter.... he is an up and coming producer or something; and anyway people wanted to help him so he put up a wish list on Amazon & people sent him stuff to take care of the cats; he also made a gofund me page & got funded there. Perhaps you could do something similar on social media, people love to help people that are helping animals.    Just a thought.   Thank you for taking care of the cats!

Try living on $800-$1000 with that being your total income.  Not just what you have left after mortgage and whatever else you said.  If you have that much money then you are pretty well off.

I hate to see a ton of cats or dogs or whatever just killed but oh well.  Maybe go after the ones who let them run at large and refuse to get them fixed.

The money you get from go fund me is not tax free.  Check in to it if you do not believe me.  First off GFM takes a percentage of every donation and the total donation.  And I am not sure if they send a 1099 for the total of the money they send to you or just expect you to turn it in.  But I do know you are required to pay taxes on the money.

Anyone who does not believe me can either go read on their website or send an email to support asking specific questions.  I don't remember why but thought about setting up an account for something once and was asking specific questions.  We went back and forth a couple of times and the info I found out really surprised me.  People think the GFM is just tax free you get it all money and you can with draw it kind of like PP.  That is not how it works.

But you are right about one thing....
People will help animals before they will help other people.  I remember people crying about cats and dogs being left out in the cold a few weeks ago.  These same idiots have no compassion for PEOPLE who are homeless and sleeping out in the cold.

I don't think GoFundMe is tax free...  I know for a fact that GFM also takes 10% of all donations right off the top -- at least that is what it was a couple years ago.  GoFundMe is definitely not the best way to go, just one venue that this guy set up & yet another way one person could set up a way to get funded.   

Helping animals & helping people aren't mutually exclusive... one can do both at the same time.

A lot of people do not know that though. Not only do they take 10% but they also take like 3 cents out of every donation besides the 10%. 

You would be surprised at how many people do not know they have to pay taxes on the money they get deposited in their GFM account.

lol.  No, I actually do not live in the country.  I would like to.  I would love to be able to live on about 100 acres and have plenty of money to have a variety of critters.
