I agree...  If you take on the responsibility of having a pet, you need to take care of them.  BUT dogs can be trained to be left alone while you are away!

You don't even have to train them.  Or maybe mine was just really smart. lol  He occupied himself just fine.  :D  Sometimes it didn't make me happy when I came home. But at least apparently he had some fun.

I don't have any pets, but:

I would venture that most indoor pet dogs are left alone all day while their owners are at work.  I would think the owners have made it possible for the dogs/or have trained them to relieve themselves in a specified location that is acceptable for inside living.

Cats can be left alone all day with no problems.

I grew up on a farm.  We had Outside pets:  dogs, cats, horses.  They had shelter, food and drink.  They had FUR and could snuggle down in the dog house or barn.

I completely agree with you.  Children are not the same as pets.  Pets can indeed be left alone. I had a dog for fifteen years.  There were times when I left her alone.  She was fine when left alone.

I have a friend that says if it has "fur" it belongs outside. lol

Most pets are left alone. Most people have to work. We can't all get welfare checks. Somebody has to work for the money.  I don't know too many people who can pay $300-$400 a week for a pet sitter.  And pet sitters get close to $10 an hour about the same as baby sitters.

And if you sit for a cat the cat will stay in the other room and ignore the sitter anyway so why have them there? LOL

Pets no doubt are happy to be alone and away from people for awhile

It’s not the same same situation. We don’t know whether the dog is comfortable starting home alone or not. The burglar triggered the dog to run. Animals are resilient & tough. Both my cat get to stay home alone & they’re fine. Only situation I wouldn’t leave a pet
alone is if it has separation problems that I’d leave the pet with a sitter.

:)   ;D    :)  I think that pets left at home for a certain amount of hours is okay. If the pets have the right place to roam, play, & able to tend to their needs, I don't see an issue. Now if the person left for more than a day, I would suggest getting a pet sitter. Other wise the pets would be fine.   :)    ;D    :)

My neighbor leaves hers alone when she goes on vacation.  I check on them and take care of them when she is away.  I have left mine over night and they are fine.

I just think it is pretty pathetic that the woman's house is broken in to and she lost stuff that most likely cannot be replaced and then he dog gets let outside as well and people don't say anything about the thug that broke in her house but condemn the woman who is the victim.
