Libraries - oh, for the good old days
« on: January 07, 2019, 01:14:22 pm »
Does anyone enjoy their library and the peace and quiet it affords? I have two libraries near me and no one at either place speaks sotto voce; you know, quietly. I've got a guy singing next to me on the computer as I type this.   :angry7:

Whatever happening to whispering in the library so you could have peace and quiet? Anyone else have this problem?

:fish:

I have my own computer, but do love to go to the library. And here is so quite. Sign in the door to turn off your cell phones so as not to make any noise. I also like reading books and prefer to hold them then to use an e-reader. Call me old fashioned but that is just the way I am.

I rarely go to libraries anymore.  I actually always found I could study and do research more effectively at home.

No, I don't have that problem.  I feel like I am being too loud just by walking when I am at the library.  I'm sure it is a hit or miss type of thing though.

I love going to the library. It's so peaceful and there's always something new to discover there.

I hardly ever go to the library anymore. However I do remember the last time I went was a few months ago and it was pretty quite in it.

Hello! :D :)

It's actually been a long time since I've been to the library. I don't really have any use for them anymore with the internet and all. I do have fond memories though as a child. :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:

I love my local library even though it is being used less and less to get books. In fact, mine is in the process of destroying books older than 10 years and turning them into digital files. But it is increasing community activities, which is good, because it brings the community together.

Libraries are changing with the times...they're people-friendly, not strict and intimidating.  They also seem to have a larger community presence...more programming for adults, field trips, workshops, partnering with other agencies and businesses.  Our library has a Trivia night at the local brewery, as an example.  Librarians want to have fun, too.  I happen to be one.

I can't get to the library anymore but I belonged to one 10 miles away because my town library wanted me to PAY to belong. I live outside of the town but have a town address and lived in town for 30 years. They don't have disability access either. The library in the other town doesn't charge anything to belong so I used to go there at least once a week for genealogy and  books. When they wanted to expand, I gladly gave them a donation. It was still nice and quiet last time I was there.

I am not sure where the no one is allowed to speak above a whisper came from.  In grade school we talked normal.

lol Nobody does.  Our library doesn't have much to offer. Guess it depends on where you live. They do have computers people can use but I have my own so I don't need that.  I don't think they offer free wifi.  And books are limited.  They do have DVDs you can borrow like books.  I have never done it though.
