Did you see...
« on: January 04, 2019, 06:04:25 am »
Have any of you seen the video where the girl is taking an order and a man is on the other side of the counter (something about straws) and he reaches across the counter and grabs her shirt lifting her off the ground and she wails the snot out of him?  He is demanding she be fired.  And as soon as he took his hands off her she stopped hitting him.  It is on the Yahoo home page today.  At least in my area.  I think the stories may vary depending on where you live.  But they may not.

I have seen a lot of comments on the stories online.  I cannot believe people side with the customer.  I feel when he put his hands on her she had a right to defend herself.  In the past working with people I have had everything imaginable said to me including a preacher who came in to a restaurant on SUNDAY after church to eat and berated me for being in there working and not in church. lol  I told him off and he complained to the manager and the manager put him in his place. lol
But I cannot remember anyone ever actually putting their hands on me or grabbing me.

She did have a right to defend herself against someone who is aggressively grabbing her, she don't know him, or what kind of person he is, so I'm glad the manager was there. People think just because you work in a place of business like a restaurant they can treat you any kind of way, not true.

True.  She is lucky.  He could have been a bigger physco than he is.  He could have really hurt her if he had punched her back or he could have shot her.  And everyone else there.  I am not sure what the issue was. Just something about straws.  I know some restaurants do not have them at all now and some you have to ask if you want them. Either way that is NOT the fault of the entry level flunky employee who is just there doing a job.

I have worked in customer service jobs.  I follow the rules given to me.  I cannot change them for you even if I agree with you.  And the thing is if you do bend the rules and help somebody out they dumb butt will go home and put your picture on Facebook and tell how you done this and you still end up in trouble.

I havent seen it but from what you described she should have hit him. is this  a commercial?  I think customers for the most part are considerate every now and then you get one that makes you wonder why in the heck do I put myself through this.

I saw the video and she really started going after him. They said she was a small girl too.  I wish all the male staff would have hurriedly defended her.  From what I have heard the guy was homeless.  I don't know and it's really no excuse, but oftentimes there are drug and mental health issues among the homeless.  The problem is you never know when people might have a knife or gun! Am I right that this happened because the guy wanted a straw?

Yes and he should be charged with assault because that was crazy.  She kept her job which is a good thing because he grabbed her and she defended herself.  He also knocked his food off the counter.

I just googled and found the video.  All I can say is:  You Go Girl

She had every right to defend herself and that guy got exactly what he deserved.

I work with the public and I would have done exactly the same thing.  I'm sure this guy will think twice before he even thinks about doing that again.

I saw it. He had a lot of nerve to grab her like that. I think she did what she needed to do to get him to let go of her. I bet he will not do that again to anyone hopefully.

I did not see it but I heard about it.  I think she was right though. A person man or woman should not put their hands on an employee for no reason.

For the 10 years or so of working in the food  and  bar business.  I was very lucky and only had one man put his hands on me, and I told him not to  touch me several times. But he  just  kept it up. then one  day while he was sitting around the table with several men he pinched me on the butt as I  leaned over to put  glasses of water  down for them. Well the devil made me do this. I on purpose spilled his glass on him and as he  stood up I cold cocked him and he landed on the floor. Of course he  got up and told me he would have my  job and he was gong to sue me. But  a couple of the other men said no. The were the  district Attorney and the assestent . But yes he got me  fired.  Now  that wouldn't happen.  But  he was playing around with owners wife.  Oh well I went  right  down the street and got a better job. Oh yeah the  guy was a  lawyer.

I saw the video on youtube yesterday.  The customer over stepped the boundaries by grabbing her shirt.  He was an *bleep* and she should have called the Police for assault.  He had no right to touch the young lady.  She was beating the S**t out of him.  He had the nerve to tell her boss to fire her when he was in the wrong.  SMDH

We live in a strange society and I am forever astonished by support people give to immoral, unethical and/or just plain rude people (especially people holding higher positions of responsibility). Regardless of what was said between the server and the patron, the server never should have been touched. I paid for college working three jobs and one was as a server. You get a really good glimpse at the bad side of human nature when you are serving food/drinks to people and I have seemingly countless stories of people and there bad behavior. My father used to be rude and would tip less than fifteen percent. My wife would treat servers like slaves and offer no respect or empathy when servers were slammed. I think that everyone should have to wait on tables at least once in their lives so that they can have more compassion.

I just googled the story/video.

https://thetakeout.com/man-arrested-for-grabbing-mcdonald-s-employee-in-fight-1831460383

It looked like the customer and the McDonald's employee had been discussing the straw situation for a little while before it escalated judging by her body position at the start of the video..... and the fact another customer got their phone camera out to video tape the situation.

When the customer reached across the counter and grabbed the McDonald's employee by the front of her shirt, she reacted in self-defense trying to get him to let go of her shirt.

I saw that video.  It's so hard to believe the mentality of people any more.  She had every right to defend herself.
Have a wonderful day!
