Do you let dogs lick you in the face/mouth?
« on: January 01, 2019, 10:04:16 pm »
That is the grossest thing.  No dog has done that to me and if I had a dog I would not allow them.  You don't know what they have been licking before they lick you.

I don't unless it happens by accident. They lick too many other "places" that I don't want my face to experience.

It doesn't bother me. As a vet tech, I have been exposed to much worse things than a little saliva bacteria. In general, I think people are more disgusting than animals. Have you been to many public bathrooms? I don't even know how people get feces all over the walls.  ::)

It is rare that this happens and it is usually by accident.  I won't let a dog lick me on the mouth!  However, I have let a few lick me on the cheek or neck.  When you think about the fact that the human mouth is supposed to have a massive amount of bacteria, I guess it isn't the worse thing that can happen!

They smear it on there with their hands! Idk if they wear gloves or not but they do it to be an @sshole so somebody has to clean it up.  I worked, years ago, at a smaller department type store, and at the end of the night went in to change the trash and a man had crapped all over the toilet, the floor, the walls every where.  I swear he had to bring it in with him because no way all of that could have came out of him.  I just walked back out.  I did not get paid enough to clean that up.  By law I would think Hazmat would have needed to be called in.

I love when my dogs give me kisses! They are filled with so much joy, appreciation and love that it spills out en masse! I think that we are exposed to far worse every time we touch something in public. Our water is filled with chemicals, even if we use purifiers and filters. Our food is crawling with bacteria. Dish washers do not sterilize our plates, glasses or flat ware so even if you do fund a hyper clean piece of food or drink you will still be dealing with the container carrying it. Our bodies are made to fight all of this by a constantly evolving immune system. I am a strong believer in the ten second rule with food hitting the ground! If it doesn't kill you it only makes you stronger. People also freak out about animals sleeping in bed with them because they walk through all kinds of germs.  I choose to live life not being a hypochondriac.

I have seen that happen twice now. Once was in a rest area, the other at Salvation Army, the sickest thing ever. Feces smeared all over the toilet seat :(

Back to the original question, I dont allow them to lick me in the mouth but I allow doggy kisses on my cheek :) To each their own
Its no different then mothers eating after their babies when they spit the food back out

No way. If they get to they are lucky. I am usually pretty quick to avoid this from happening. Glad my dog is not does not do this.

Our food is crawling with bacteria.

Many of the food recalls are due to e.coli, and well, that comes from feces.  :-X

No, don't think it's a good idea and no desire to let it happen.

No that is gross.  I have a bid problem letting something lick me that has previously licked their butt.  Plus dogs will go outside and eat some of the most disgusting things.

I agree with you doc......some people are more disgusting. While i dont look for the dog to lick me in the face if it happens i am not about to scold the dog for showing me affection.Instead i will praise them and make them feel loved.
