Leaving Pets Alone
« on: December 22, 2018, 08:18:52 pm »
Does anyone else leave a radio or other noisemaker on when they leave their pets alone so that they don't get as lonely? If so, what is your pet and what do you leave on for them? We leave a radio for our parakeet at home.

I have a Tibetan Terrier. I always leave the radio on for her when I leave. I know how upset she gets when she hears noises so I leave it on a bit loud and hopefully it drowns out anything she may hear outside.

I don't think the radio or TV keeps them company. YOU or other people do that. Yeah, I have left something on. I do think they pay attention to the TV sometimes. lol

We keep the TV on for our parrot when we're gone for a day. Not necessarily to entertain him, but to make him think there's someone in the house.  He's very smart, so he probably doesn't fall for it.  But it makes us feel better.

I have 2 cats so I think they keep each other company.  But I have wondered about leaving a radio on as the younger one gets scared by loud noises (lawn mowers, leaf blowers etc) outside,  that it might help lessen the "noise".

I used to leave Pandora running for my dog when I went to work. I don't know if he liked it or not. But I know they've done studies on animals and music, and apparently dogs prefer reggae and soft rock. LoL! I know shelters sometimes play soft music for cats. It helps calm them.

Sometimes I leave the TV or radio on the for the dogs but, mostly I don't bother.   There are two of them and I think they sleep most of the time when we're gone.  Well, sleep and get in trouble.  Naughty dogs!

I have a parakeet, but I don't leave anything on in the house when we are gone. She likes to entertain herself with toys. I do feel bad sometimes so I think I will get another bird soon so she has company.

No I never thought about putting music on.  I do that sometimes for the grandkids to drown out outside noises from the gardener etc.

I don't have pets but I would think that leaving music playing would help make the animal feel like there is somewhere near to them even though they can't see anyone

I always left the TV on for our dog.  My mother-in-law used to "baby-sit" him if we went any where until she passed away.  After that, we had to leave him home by himself.  He didn't like that either.  He passed away 4 months after my mother-in-law did.
Have a wonderful day!

He probably does know it is not a person in the house but the noise can be a comfort. Just like people who are alone and keep a tv on for background noise.
