Bohemian Rhapsody
« on: December 18, 2018, 07:31:51 pm »
I was off from work yesterday and finally got to see the movie, I have to say I didn't know what to expect going in but it proved to be one of the best movies I have seen this year. I wasn't much of a queen fan growing up but I have their songs running through my head for the last 24 hours.

I love the band Queen and Freddy Mercury was an entertainment genius loaded with energy and charisma. The movie was really good but seemed to try too hard which was somewhat detrimental. Interesting facts were thrown in against the movie flow and did not fit contextually. For example, when Freddy Mercury first introduced himself to the band he threw out  a statement related to having two more bicuspids than the average human being which allowed him to hit additional notes. I doubt that this was how the first Mercury to band interaction went and was awkward, a mistake on the producer's part in my eyes. I think that Rami did an exceptional job of filling Mercury's shoes and do not think that Sacha Cohen could have done better although I agree with Cohen that the movie would have been better with an "R" rating and the content that goes with the rating.

I was a fan of Queen when I was growing up.  I was naive and didn't know the culture that Freddy Mercury ran in, though.
Have a wonderful day!

I think that this was a fantastic movie - it was very well done. I really enjoyed it. I was a bit hesitant when my daughter (13) said she wanted to see it for her birthday, but I didn't find it too bad. I think it was cast pretty well.

I am glad they didn't give it an R rating, or I would have missed a good show.

I never used to want to see documentaries about rock groups, but when I see them I end up admiring the group.  :in-love:

I'm looking forward to seeing Bohemian Rhapsody. Glad you brought it up.

Freddy sings a song called "Show must go on"...a very moving song when he was aware he was dying and only he could put it over like no one else can.

A shame with his lifestyle he didnt heed these words.....

“Do not be misled: God is not one to be mocked. For whatever a man is sowing, this he will also reap; because he who is sowing with a view to his flesh will reap corruption from his flesh, but he who is sowing with a view to the spirit will reap everlasting life from the spirit.”—Gal. 6:7, 8.

I, too, was unsure what to expect from this show but was really glad I went to see it.  I thought it was quite informative and provocative.  I also enjoyed the music immensely.  The acting was very good. I was surprised to learn that Freddy was actually quite involved with a woman for awhile.  The actor who played Freddy actually wore a prosthetic device in his mouth to imitate the fact that Freddy had a mouthful of teeth!  I'm sure that was a bit difficult to get used to.

I'll have to wait until it's on TV., but I first heard it when hubby and I were on a trip to Ohio and stopped for lunch. They had a jukebox and the song "Another One Bites the Dust"....that did it for me. I was a Queen fan ever since. I saw his autobiography when he was still alive and was saddened by his death. Every so often I go on Youtube and listen to his music. He had a beautiful voice and I loved all the songs, even the one with the opera star. .

You would refuse to watch a movie solely based on it being rated R ?
